sunshyne20: The drift is, almost everyone now operating any form of business now has a bank account: why travel to the bank, wasting time, money, and resources to withdraw cash (not to mention the risk) when you can simply do bank transfer either on your device, the ATM, or worst case scenario in the banking hall? Why carry excess cash with you (personally I just burn those like a possessed being when it's on me), when you can transfer to all those peeps (if there is nothing to hide)? For how many reasonable reasons would you want to withdraw excess of N.5m and carry it on you, when your recipients can be transferred to (I practically encourage those around me to get an account)? Even my ab0kis at Sabo, we do transfers. This is 2017, even grannies use Android devices. We don't all have to be stuck in the past because some people refuse to step up and upgrade. BVN and IPPIS they said was a bad idea, how about now? 1 Like |

erico2k2: At what cost? As expensive as traveling to the bank, wasting time (time is money), fuel, and bearing the risk of having over N500k in the trunk? This past December, in PH, a man and his family were robbed and held hostage in the middle of the night, wife raped just cause they got info he brought money home . . . . they wouldn't believe N500k was all he brought home. Juxtapose that to N100 bank charge, that is if you are transferring to another bank. |

Under d current economic situation of d country, dis had gotta be dumbest policy of d CBN. I'm beginning to beliv dat d CBN is deliberately pushing d economy towards a depression. Instead of losing my hard earn money to fraudsters (banks), I'd ratha convert my money to hard currency & keep in a cool, dry place. |

Who makes these policies?? My guess is 12 years old children. How do you promote cashless policy by charging deposits. This will only make people keep their money at home. I can not take my 1million naira to the bank for CBN to take 50k from it, I rather keep at home or in my office. 1 Like |

Emefiele must go! Its only in Nigeria that depositors pay for lodging money with the bank. It is this same depositors funds that these greedy banks use to give loans to their cronies which ultimately go bad. It is just lazy for the CBN to make such demands on Nigerians. The banks need us more than we need them. To hell with the lot of them. 2 Likes |

Instead of taking such huge sum to the bank which is unsafe for you and the money as well, why not transfer it from the source. Don't tell me you will accept such huge money in cash after business transaction, so where does that huge amount of money come to your hand in cash in the first place ? donfemo: 1 Like 1 Share |

[quote author=iluvdonjazzy post=5400387 It also directed that with effect from April 1 , 2017, banks in the states where the cashless policy was already operating , Lagos , Ogun , Anambra , Abia, Kano , Rivers and the Federal Capital Territory , would begin to impose charges on deposits and withdrawals above N 500 ,000 . Banks will from that date begin to charge individuals 1 . 5 per cent and two per cent for deposits and withdrawals between N 500 ,000 and N 1 m . According to the circular , individuals depositing or withdrawing between N 1 m and N 5 m will be charged two per cent and three per cent, respectively. For amounts above N 5 m , banks will charge such individuals three per cent and 7 . 5 per cent for deposits and withdrawals, respectively. With regard to corporate customers, the CBN stated that deposits and withdrawals under N 3 m would not attract any charge , but that such customers depositing or withdrawing between N 3 m and N 10 m would be charged two per cent and five per cent, respectively. Also for deposits and withdrawals between N 10 m and N 40 m , customers will be charged three per cent and 7 . 5 per cent, respectively . http://punchng.com/cbn-reintroduces-charges-cash-deposits-withdrawals/[/quote] What is wrong with this place call nigeria. Suddenly every unecessary charge reactivated. Just think about this-> 1. If you go to the bank to do any transaction you will be charged for the following';- i. Stamp duty. ii. Sms alert. iii. Atm inter-bank transaction. iv. Now we have to pay to withdraw and deposite our hard earned money. Isn't that insane? 2. We now pay for increased vat. 3. The power bill is about 60% over rated. 4. Prenium motor spirit (fuel) increased by 80% ;-(For me the things that are not on the increase in nigeria. Include.> Economy, Power generation, Dollar exchange rate, and the minimum wage. This goverment is anti people, they are indirectly exploiting the poor masses. WE NEED REVOLUTION |

This is the most glaring financial rape of bank customers! What is the rationale behind this decision? It is high time we face this CBN and Banks' executives making profit at all cost syndrome!!! They complain of decreased profits and yet these executives change their SUVs and upgrade their benefits every year!!! |

Why not let's look from this angle. The northern populace are generally not in conformity with modern trend, they so much love antiquity in their ways. Check those northern business guys, they really making money but how much have they embraced mobile technology? Another reason why you'll see that out of the 3 major tribes, only the Yorubas and Igbos form majority of the social media users ( considering the population of the northerners) . Check every nook and cranny of the cyberspace, you hardly find them there, Nairaland for example , arguably the largest online forum in Nigeria if not Africa , but do you find sizeable number of Northerners here? The southerners dominate the cyberspace, and of course when you think of cyber crimes, the southerners readily come to mind, that's to tell you their level of education and exposure to western culture is way too low . Invariably, mobile and Internet banking could be quite esoteric. This could be CBN's reason gocac: 1 Like 1 Share |
