Boni Haruna
Reprieve came the way of former Adamawa state Governor; Mr. Boni Haruna as a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has acquiesced to the release of his traveling documents including his international passport for 4 weeks to enable him travel to the United States of America for further medical diagnosis, surgery and biopsy.

Boni Haruna who is facing a 28 count amended charges filed by EFCC bordering on money laundering and stealing of public fund totaling about One Hundred and Sixty One Million Naira while at the helm of affairs in the state, has been battling a deteriorating health condition and had applied to the court for the release of his traveling papers to enable him seek medical attention abroad.

Justice Adamu Bello, while delivering his ruling on the application by Haruna, observed that the former Governor had shown good faith in his application having been granted a similar one earlier on during his trial. The Judge further observed that Boni Haruna complied diligently with the conditions of the release of his traveling documents and returned back the documents as soon as he arrived into the country. He reiterated that the opposition by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission against the application was erroneous as it was not an application for bail.

The presiding judge however refused to give the former Governor the entire number of days he requested. Haruna had requested for a period of 45 days to enable him recuperate after the surgery but the Judge only allowed him 4 weeks which will start counting from the 9th of this month to enable the former governor seek for his visa.

The judge also ordered Boni’s sureties to submit an undertaking to ensure that the former governor would not jump bail and that failure of Haruna to return his International Passport at the expiration of the 4 weeks would lead to forfeiture of their bail bond of One Hundred Million posted for the former Governor.
