In this modern times, we are been faced with different challenges and problems whose solution we continually seek. Fornication and adultery are not to be left out. A lot of brothers and sisters out there today have given the way for their sexual urge to deprive them of their faith and left them in the pit of sins. The solution to this is stated by Allah in the Glorious Quran. He says “And come not near to the unlawful sexual intercourse. Verily, it is a Fahishah [i.e. anything that transgress its limit (a great sin)], and an evil way (that leads one to Hell unless Allah forgives him)” . The Quran is a book that if it speaks, you will continue to wonder how perfect it is. Allah says “don’t go near”. The creator of this universe, the creator of me and you had stated the solution to our problems in the book he gave us as a manual since about 1438 years ago. In the verse above, zina is called a Fahishah and an evil way that leads one to hell unless you repent and Allah forgives you. Allah says “don’t go near” he didn’t say “don’t commit”; why? The reason isn’t farfetched in our contemporary society. The wisdom behind the instruction is that: if you don’t go near you can’t commit it. The act of going near is in itself a sin. If you don’t go near you would neither be tempted nor seduced to committing it. It is normal for a man to be aroused sexually towards a lady you are staring at due to her beauty or shape because you didn’t obey the instruction above. The meaning of the instruction encompasses a lot of meaning which includes lower your gaze, don’t shake, don’t kiss, don’t free mix with the opposite sex, don’t stay in seclusion with the opposite sex, don’t visit the opposite sex at odd times, don’t watch films that will display love affairs, don’t hug and don’t watch pornographies etc. all the above are just a few I could remember at present. Zina comprises of both adultery and fornication, which are both common in our environments. Zina is a major sin which we have to shun and curb by all means. Every mature male and female are bound to be moved sexually to the opposite sex. Islam gave a regulated way to fulfill this urge which is through the proper Nikkah. In a situation you aren’t ready for the Nikkah, you are meant to engage in fasting as it suppresses the sexual urge, and not to resolve to zina as a way of fulfilling your urge. This will be detrimental to your faith and makes you guilty of Allah’s punishment. You are to both overtly and covertly avoid going near zina through any of the aforementioned ways, as that is the only true solution to not falling into zina. The punishment for the purification from the sin of Zina is stated in the glorious Quran. Allah says “the woman and the man guilty of illegal sexual intercourse flog each of them with a hundred stripes. Let not pity withhold you in their case, in a punishment prescribed by Allah, if you believe in Allah and the last day…) .” The punishment stated above is for the unmarried brother or sister. If a married man or woman commits zina he/she is to be stoned to death. This a little admonition to safeguard my soul and the soul of my brethren let’s hearken to the lesson and inform others. Your slogan should be “don’t go near”.
