Ferguson wants added time revamp
Sir Alex Ferguson said referees should not be responsible for calculating the amount of time to add on after watching Aston Villa beat Manchester United.

Ferguson argued his case vociferously with fourth official Michael Jones at Old Trafford after three minutes of extra time had been signalled.

The United boss said: "It has to be taken out of the referee's hands.

"There were two stoppages of two minutes three seconds, but we only played three minutes added time."

Aston Villa's victory, sealed by Gabriel Agbonlahor's first-half strike, was their first in the league - home or away - over Manchester United since 1983.

And it put them up to third in the Premier League table, while United fell three points behind leaders Chelsea, who had earlier been held to a draw by Everton.

Ferguson went on: "Second half I think we deserved something. There wasn't much in it first half, they probably just shaded it and deserved the goal.

"Second half we pummelled them, had a lot of good chances and didn't get any.

"We are camped in their box and if we take one of those chances then the game would have probably changed. It's just one of those days it wasn't going in."

However, he also paid tribute to the spirit shown by Martin O'Neill's team, who defended with great skill in the second half.

"Every man jack of them has put in the extra 10 yards to get to the ball. We closed them down but it was a very strong effort from them."

Ferguson remained calm about his team's chances of retaining their Premier League title.

"It's not an easy league. I say that time and time again. If we get to January within touching distance of the leaders then we're in with a great chance."

A delighted O'Neill said his team had played "cleverly".

"There is a good confidence about the team and great ability," he said.

"There's a fine set of players coming through. If on the day we're capable of scoring goals then I think we have a chance. Just recently we've tightened up a wee bit and that's made a marked improvement.

"Manchester United penned us in and that caused us a few problems, but when we broke we still had a little chance to do something.

"We had a bit of luck when Wayne Rooney hit the bar and perhaps after what's happened in the past on trips here we deserved that little bit of luck.

"It's a great win for us, gives us a boost of confidence but we have a difficult programme between now and the new year."

Yeah. . . . he wants us to go back to the 1990's when referees' only definition of injury time was "play till United score".

He seems to easily forget that the reason for the FA taking the decision out of the hands of the referee was because of the uproar that followed numerous elongated injury-times at Old Trafford.

The old fool needs to worry about why his team is so impotent and how he can replace Ronaldo, not injury time or bla bla bla.

The old fool won 3 titles in a row. . . . . .None of your young managers can achieve that.
For a fan whose team went 51 years without a league title, you sound like an overleveraged knobjockey.

or maybe he wants the home coach to take the injury time decisions and not the ref. this man should stop whining and should always give it to his players when they fail to get results.

Fergie and his Amala politics (sighs) he reminds me of the late Ibadan strongman Lamidi Adedibu with his agbero/omo onilé tactics. Why can't the cud chewing ruminant just take defeat like a man? Instead of nagging like a housewife who's husband did not drop enuff soup money before leaving for work

@Ibime
I thought that ish was over exaggeration till i watched them old ESPN classic highlights of the Premiership in its infancy hahaha it was play till Utd score at Ojoro Trafford in dem days of Bruce and Pallister

I understand the old man
He wants to divert attention from the insipid display by his bunch of Obertans
But we ain't falling for it.
Like 3 minutes extra time is more important than 90 minutes of play
Why not just lay the law that anytime Manure is losing, it should be 60 minutes played in the 2nd half! grin
Rubbish!!!

Do you expect anything else from FAGGOTson?

Let UEFA just pair us together so Bayern can hand him his Ass

SAF has grown so old that he is now a child, who feels he should get everything he want by hook or crook, even if he doesn't deserve it.
So it was fine for the ref to decide the added time when it allowed him score a late goal to beat Citeh, but now that he lost to a goal scored in the 21st minute it has to be taken out of the ref's hand. undecided
United failed to score in 95mins of play, 1yr of added time wouldn't have changed the outcome.

Lol i have no doubt in ma mind that a Bank Holiday will be declared in the UK the day Fergie does not complain about officiating after any league loss. I wonder why he doesn't do that in the UCL. The FA peeps ain't doin their jobs
