In a bid to stay true to Nigeria, the leading retail store in Africa, Shoprite have flagged off a campaign to promote 'Proudly made in Nigeria products'. The flagship event which took place in the Shoprite store at the Ikeja Mall had in attendance top-flight manufacturers, start-ups and members of the press.

The event which is the first of its kind, aimed at strengthening the existing relationships with producers, identifying gaps, harnessing new opportunities in line with improving the Economic stability of the country, alongside creating the chance for local producers to showcase products and goods manufactured in Nigeria for export.

The management of Shoprite hopes that this would encourage entrepreneurs who are in the business of production to partner with Shoprite to make Proudly Nigeria products a household name both locally and internationally.

Commendable move i must confess.

Fear of being boycott by Nigerian shoppers. This is image making to avert the negative consequences of xenophobia in South Africa.

They want people to feel the sense of ownership which would discourage any hostile plan.

Nah!! wink All those imported goods they sell are gradually becoming overpriced, and getting out of the reach of Nigerians, due to the unfavourable FX rate that keeps fluctuating. As more people shun these consumables and goods, the higher will be the levels of unsold stock on Shoprite's shelves. And the more you tie down money in unsold stock, the tighter will be your cash flow. Some of those goods may even become obsolete or expire on the shelves, due to non-patronage. sad

So it makes sense to try and substitute them with high-quality locally made goods that appeal more to Nigerians, and are much more affordable. The faster those goods sell, the more revenue flows into the pockets of Shoprite. It is called strategy! cheesy
