London was today on lockdown as people were warned to stay away from no go zones after at least five people were killed in the London terror attack yesterday afternoon.

Westminster Tube station has been closed following the attack, in which a policeman was stabbed to death and at least 40 people were injured when a car mounted the pavement on Westminster Bridge.

Three more civilians were killed on the bridge, as well as the attacker, and many suffered 'catastrophic injuries', including one women who was pulled from the Thames after jumping over to avoid the car.

A huge area around the palace has now been cordoned off, including the bridge, as police remain on high alert in fear of any subsequent attacks on what it the heart of Britain's political establishment.

Police have warned people to expect armed guards at Tube stations and a heavy police presence on the streets, and the Army is now poised to descend upon London amid security fears.

Police wearing body armour and carrying guns were at the scene today.

People across London can expect to see armed officers at Tube stations and other significant areas as security services remain on highalert.

Parliament Square, usually populated by thousands of visitors and people who work in the corridors of power, was today abandoned after police put the area on lockdown after the attack on the Palace of Westminster.

The Thames has been closed from Vauxhall to Embankment 'as part of the security response', after a member of the public, believed to have been hit by the car, was recovered from the water near Westminster Bridge.

Parliament was placed on lockdown after the attack.

Dozens of people were left stranded in the air at the top of the London Eye, which stopped amid the carnage in Westminster.

The head of counter-terrorism at London's Metropolitan Police, Mark Rowley, said four people have died in the terror incident in London, including an attacker and a police officer.



Acting Commander BJ Harrington of the Metropolitan Police, pictured 2nd, warned people to stay away from parts of central London, now on lockdown as officers investigate and guard against any further attacks that may follow.

Two knives have were seen on the ground as a man, believed to be the attacker, pictured, was taken from the scene in an ambulance.

Police have now confirmed that he has died.

Moments beforehand, officcers could be seen crowding around the injured man, who was shot by a policeman after stabbing a fellow officer outside the Palace of Westminster.

The Hyundai 4x4 used by the attacker remains at the scene after it slammed into a fence before the attacker got out.

At least 40 civilians were injured on Westminster Bridge as the car mounted the pavement and ploughed into pedestrians and cyclists.

Large areas of London were left deserted today, with nothing but policeon guard in places usually packed with people.

Armed police officers have raided a flat on Hagley Road in Birmingham.

The address is said to match the location the London terror attack driver rented the Hyundai he used as a weapon from.

Witnesses in the area said people had been taken away by the police from the address.
