Brazil have become the first country to qualify for the Russia 2018 World Cup after beating Paraguay 3-0 on Tuesday, and Peru beat third-placed Uruguay 2-1.

The win also marks the eighth straight win for Brazil coach Tite in the qualifiers and nine overall since he took charge of the team.

Phillippe Coutinho, Neymar and Marcelo were the scorers for the Selecao, as they secured an win over their rivals to seal a place at the next World Cup in Russia after being the hosts of the last edition.

The Brazilians sit top of the qualifying pile, 33 points from 14 games and with four rounds of matches left, they are followed by Colombia on 24 points, Uruguay and Chile on 23 points, while Argentina are fifth on 22 points.

The top four teams at the end of the qualifiers are guaranteed a place at the World Cup, while the fifth-placed team go for an intercontinental play-off against the top-ranked side from the Oceania region.

What this means is that while Brazil may still end up not finishing top of the pile, they cannot finish outside of the top – which guarantees them an automatic qualification to the World Cup – as Uruguay and Argentina still have to face each other, making it impossible for both of them to finish ahead of Brazil.
