BEFORE YOU DATE YOUR CO-WORKER- READ THIS!

Everyone wants to find love. As human beings, we tend to drift towards the familiar and the convenient every single time.
While some believe office romances are an absolutely bad idea, others believe it makes perfect sense since you spend at least 8 hours a day with your co-workers. Whatever the case may be, here are some tips on things to consider before you date a co-worker.

Your company's fraternization policy:

Most companies have a policy on dating. Usually, some companies forbid bosses from dating their bosses,
while some companies just forbid employees from dating anyone in the company at all.
There are also companies that will not employ married couples. Therefore, you have to consider
the fact that if your relationship leads to the altar, one partner might need to forfeit his/her job.

Is your proposed partner a direct supervisor/subordinate?:

If your proposed partner is a direct boss or subordinate, you might have to reconsider starting
a relationship. It would be difficult to reprimand an employee you are in a relationship with.
On the flip side, you might be accused of nepotism if your significant other gets promoted at work.

How closely do you work together:

It is not advisable to date a co-worker in your department or team. This could be challenging
if you are in a competitive situation. It would be awkward competing for a promotion with your significant other.

Are you comfortable telling your employer?:

It is not advisable to try to keep your relationship a secret, chances are your superiors will find out.
It's better you let them know yourself. You might need to tell your superiors about your relationship.
Are you comfortable with this?

Weigh the consequences:

Let's face it, sometimes relationships don't go as planned. If things come to an end,
to what extent will it affect your job. Can you remain professional if things come to an end?
If these potential consequences make you feel uneasy or worried about your professional future,
you probably shouldn't pursue the relationship.
