-Reps have made plans to enforce the 'pay as you go' option on Multichoice satellite tv

- The lawmakers say that if similar communication companies around the world are doing it then Multichoice shouldn't be left out

- They say making one’s subscription stop at the end of the month is against all known and fair business practices all over the world

Members of the House Representatives on Wednesday, April 5, moved to enforce the ‘pay as you go’ option on Multichoice Satellite television.

The moves comes sequel to a motion entitled:“Need To Investigate The Exorbitant Charges And Refusal of Multichoice Satellite Tv Company To Adopt the Pay As You Go Option Package”,promoted by Rep Abbas Tajudeen, PDP, Plateau state.
House of Reps moves to enforce ‘pay as you go’ option on Multichoice Satellite TV
According to Vanguard, the House in plenary mandated the committees on Ethics, Values and National Orientation, Telecommunications to interface with Nigerian Communications Commission, (NCC) the Consumer Protection Council and the Multichoice Satellite Television Company to address these concerns and report back within eight weeks for further legislative action.
Abbas in his submission had complained of the “the ever increasing prices of the various bouquet on offer by Multichoice Satellite Tv Company and its refusal to offer ‘Pay As You Go’ package option on its digital satellite tv.
He said:“This development is causing a financial strain on its subscribers and this practice of increase is almost on a yearly basis as in 2013 the monthly subscription increased by 10-15percent and in 2015 by 10-22percent and just recently another notification of increase was sent.
“DSTV does not have ‘a pay as you go’ plan like most similar communication companies around the world thereby making one’s subscription to end at the end of the month, this is against all known and fair business practices all over the world.”

Long overdue but not too late.

DSTV Multichoice has maligned the sensibility of Nigerians over the years and have taken us for a ride by operating a monopolistic market in our own land.

DSTV and MTN two South African companies has raked in so much money from the Nigeria economy to improve the GDP of their homeland. Yet their countrymen out of jealousy, resent and violently attack our citizens for making ends meet over there.

It's high time we draw a line by making conscientious legislation to curtail their overbearing operations.

Lol...The redtapism that follows matters like these is not new. However, with the 'belief' that this bill is not just another avenue to aim high on political correctness,i think lets give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.
