How many of our locals understand the TRUE meaning of immune system?

Some wicked people will definitely hide under these rebranded names to create havoc.

I hope it works.

We should be making more effort to translate these foreign words in our language so that it won't seem like our languages have limitations. The English guys don't waste time in anglicizing words.

It's very interesting. Only in Nigeria do we get a research grant to name an already known disease.

Meanwhile there's someone somewhere researching a cure.

Most Nigerian lecturers are clowns

I concur with the rebranding for HIV/AIDS...
But what's with the branding for 'PROSTITUTES'?
It seems they are legalizing prostitution and making it sound morally just!

Inukwa 'NDINKWUGHARI'.. cheesy,smh.

“It is the researchers’ belief that behavioural change is only possible when the people are familiar with the appropriate terminology for HIV and AIDS in their own languages.”

Africans look!!.

The above statement is what would happen when we actually begin using our native languages to acquire knowledge in school. Actually, more would happen. When that begin happening in the school, we would become really a new people, true Africans able to build our own cars, build our own fast trains, build ships, go to moon, e.t.c. We would be able to research chemistry, physics, biology on our own terms, disprove or even enhance some of the things white people say, create terminologies to express ourselves as it suits us, just like the Japanese, Russians, Chinese, Koreans, e.t.c. The impact would create a new nation of people able to think for themselves without foreign influence.

It's very unfortunate the team won't escalate such endeavor to the schools.

No matter how they change the vocab it wont work
As they are using gbele pawp for olosho and other words, those words will gradually also serve the very purpose they were invented to combat, they will become insultive words and stigma will be added to them, its inevitable

So all these girls na gbele pawo
See gbele pawo like u

Dongreat:

Yes you are correct about the stigmatization but only those who are ignorant of the antiretroviral drugs or just stupid still stigmatize people. With the antiretrovirals, couple with a healthy life style, HIV patients live normal life and die from old age and these patients also live longer than alcoholics.

Ps: To those finding this outrageous, lucky you can understand English and purchase data to knowledge but try explaining "the pathophysiology of HIV" to mama charle the buka seller. These names are made for the uneducated to understand the disease easily.

so the simple and Origina name like
Aids and Hiv go hard Mama Buka to Pronounce or Recorgnise??
