The NIMC (National Identity Management Commission) cards are not yet available.

The National ID Card that was obtained under Obasanjo regime is said to be going out of date. The greatest advantage of that ID card is that it does not have any years of expiration. I don’t know why it is said that they are going out of date.

Most adult Nigerians have already registered for NIMC, but the only thing they have to show for it is the paper slip that can also be laminated. Some banks do accept it, but most online companies reject it.

Why? It doesn’t look professional.

Perhaps the major reason why the government hasn’t made the NIMC permanent cards available is because of its costs. The present government is a professional time waster, who is also good at dodging responsibilities.

Then there is a simple suggestion: Make people pay for their cards. People pay for other means of identity like driver’s license and international passport. Why not the permanent NIMC cards?

People will shout, cry, incriminate and protest. Then they would keep silent.

There are people who need the permanent NIMC desperately, and they would pay for it if that is what’s required of them to get it. This would offset the huge costs the government may bear.

The govt doesn't have the plan to do what you're saying.
