The Federal Government has said teachers who do not possess Professional Certificate of the Teachers’ Registration Council, TRCN, will be shown the way out by the end of this year. This was disclosed by the Registrar/Chief Executive of the Council, Professor Olusegun Ajiboye in Ibadan yesterday. According to him, the decision is part of the three-year Ministerial Strategic Plan by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu. This, he added, was aimed at getting rid of unqualified teachers in Nigerian schools. He further hinted that the first professional qualifying examination of TRCN would hold at the end of September, 2017. He advised those who want to use the normal registration to act before the end of May 2017. While hinting that about 1.6m teachers have registered, he said examination was designed in modules comprising category A (PhD holders), B (Master degree holders), C (Bachelor degree holders), and D (NCE holders). Ajiboye said, “By the end of 2017, Nigerian children will be taught by only qualified professional teachers who can deliver the quality education desirous for the elevation of our children and our country.”

This is because During Jonathan's tenure he crippled our economy. Illiterates were teaching whereas those without certificate are hungry.

It you want to teach u must be a professional before we see a case where a teacher cannot spell like what oshimole saw.

It means many teachers will be jobless. Why not also send home senators without certificates? Does our president have a professional certificate? The solution will be give these teachers the opportunity to go back to school and try and get a certificate while they are still working. They may decide to run part- time

Because he's without a professional certificate too. Yeye people. Every time you don't mention Goodluck, your dick will fall like ara darada. Tell us who owns Ikoyi money abeg

Nonsense, a Hausa Minister trying to create unemployment for the Southerners.

How many educated and professional Teachers do we have in the North.

All these power show is on only for the Southerners.

Therefore, NYSC should be scrapped because it is usually used to augment the illiteracy and scarcity of qualified Teachers in the North.

That's a welcome development.

The education sector needs a complete revamp. It also needs more money pumped into it for this.

I hope private schools will also be scrutinised.

If we can't get it right in education, then there's little hope for Nigeria as a country

Na wa.

According to Forbes Africa (pg 20, August 2016) Nigerians spend about $2bn annually on educational and medical tourism only to be attended to in those foreign lands by their very own countrymen and women!

Those pros didn't leave because there were too many quacks in the system. They left because of unfavourable conditions in the system. Those unfavourable conditions still hold sway. In fact, they're waxing stronger by the day.

The powers that be and their kith and kin, right from the top, still engage in educational and medical tourism.

The current president is billed for yet another stint abroad seeking medical attention in a foreign land.

And the minimum wage can't buy a bag of low quality rice.

Some decades ago, a certain Temitayo Shokunbi was the best graduating medical student in the whole of Canada. Despite mouthwatering offers globally, he chose to return to Nigeria to serve his country. In that era, such decisions were common place. Today, such a decision would be unbelievable. And almost unacceptable.

Point is, Nigeria hasn't been able to manage the remunerations, benefits and work paraphernalia and conditions of the unqualified ones.

It will cost even more to manage the professionals.

Re: Teachers Without Professional Certificates To Go By Dec — FG by AdeniyiA(m): 7:39am On Apr 19, 2017
Our leaders are mad again with their misplaced priority, many qualified teachers are not even happy with the job because teachers are treated shabbily in this part of the world, there's absolutely no welfare package for our teachers as compared with some parts of the world where teachers are treated like kings. No student ever aspire to be a teacher. ...
The plan will surely fail as there are no qualified ones who wish to become a suffering teacher.

Come to even think of it, aren't the dullards who are pushed to education sector as seen in the cut off mark of JAMB for intending teachers. A country which cares about the education of its citizen will set a high standard for anyone who wishes to be a teacher.
NO SINGLE SECTOR IS WORKING IN NIGERIA.
OUR LEADERS NEED MASS BURIAL angry angry

They are just trying to make TRCN relevant. 90% of teachers in Nigeria, especially those in private schools, are teaching because there are no jobs in the professional fields. If they want to enforce professionalism, they should as well compel all politicians to take a degree in political science, public administration, or at least a professional certification in leadership.

Any which way you look at it, southerners will still benefit from having their children taught by qualified individuals.
You need to admit to yourself that most public and a lot of private institutions and schools in the south have fallen to the dogs (primary, secondary n tertiary). They are just living on past glory. A lot of university / polytechnic graduates can't even construct simple sentences.
I'm not going to mention schools in the north, because we have fewer schools there, and the situation is most probably even worse.
