Today's events at the Aso Rock Villa could mark the fall of the once Great And Touchable eye of the President.

After much pressure, President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Buhari has been under pressure from the Senate to sack Lawal over allegations that he used his position to exploit the victims of the insurgency in the northeast.

The apex legislative assembly also called for Lawal’s prosecution for allegedly violating the provisions of the Public Procurement Act, 2007 and the Federal Government Financial Rules and Regulations pertaining to the award of contracts.

Buhari had initially in a letter addressed to the Senate President, dated January 17, 2017, cleared the SGF of any wrongdoing.

Here are the 5 allegations that may have lead to Lawal’s suspension:

1 The Presidential Initiative on Northeast (PINE) under Babachir Lawal, could not account for 2.5 billion naira allocated to it for the alleviation of the suffering of IDPs in the northeast.

2 Rholavision, owned by Lawal, got 200 million Naira as kickback from a contract the SGF awarded for the clearing of “invasive plant species” (GRASS) in Yobe state. Josmon Technologies LTD got the contract from PINE to do the job for N248,939,231. 5. Josmon Technologies LTD made cash deposits of N10 million into Lawal’s company’s account 20 times from March 29, making N200m. The SGF claimed that he resigned from his company on August 15, 2015, and as a result was not a party to whatever business it contracted.

Documents from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) showed that the SGF was a director of Rholavision until September 16, 2016 when he wrote to the commission informing it of his intention to relinquish 1, 500, 000 ordinary shares.

3 In the early days of his office, the SGF was accused of solely directing the Niger-Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to raise N3 billion to fund the APC governorship election in Bayelsa State. Some APC members who participated in the controversial election claimed the SGF “cornered 40 per cent” of the N3 billion released by the NDDC. Buhari did not, however, get to know about the secret deal until after the election. The revelation of the secret deal was said to have consequently pitched the SGF against the former management of the NDDC, which later led to the sack of the entire management staff.

4 He was also accused to have planned to use a phony N1.3billion ecological fund to prosecute the Ondo governorship election before the plan was leaked and subsequently foiled.

5 A native of Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, the SGF is also said to be using his office to regularly corner huge funds from heads of federal government’s agencies by recurrently summoning them to his office, forcing them to fund some projects, citing the President’s interests.

What is the meaning of this irresponsible and idiotic suspension of SGF? If the SGF is found of any dereliction of his duties and engrossed in improper dealings, he should fired and prosecuted.

For me personally,I am thinking that Presidency is using the suspension of SGF to mend fences with the National Assembly!!.and possibly secure an opportunity to ensure Magu continues in Office.There is currently a stalemate in the relationship between the Executive and Legislature and this needs to be unlocked.
