How I Was Scammed By Policemen. by shortgun(m): 12:58pm On Apr 26, 2017
I am doing this for people to learn from what happened to me.
Police is not your friend!

I traveled to Enugu to supervise a job at the same time spend the Easter holidays there.

I was driving around the town when
I noticed a police patrol car drive past me and stopped in front.
I drove past them since I don't have any business with them.
My papers are complete and up to date, I don't do crime. I can give account of how I got everything I own.
After like 2minutes the same patrol car drove past me the second time. This time the officers in the car were looking at me as if they were sizing me up.

I became alert and was just watching and continued driving.
The police car stopped in front again but this time parked in front a black truck.
I was relieved cos I thought they have caught up with whoever or whatever they were after.
I continued on my way a little bit relaxed.

After like 5 minutes the same police car overtook me in commando style and the officers were shouting "park! park!! park!!!" at me.

They double crossed and parked in front of me.
I was just looking at them till one of them came down from the patrol car and tried to force the passenger door open. I asked him what the problem was and he said I should open the door.

After I was convinced within myself that they were real police officers. I opened the door and he entered.
I was very confident cos I know my vehicle papers are complete and up to date, I don't do crime, I don't get involved in anything illegal.

I raised my voice and ask him; " Officer, what is the problem " He said "you beat traffic light"
I asked him which traffic light?
He said the one for back
I said Which one?
I looked back but can't see any traffic light in sight.
I told him that the last light I remember I passed was like 20minutes drive away and they overtook me like 3 times why didn't they stop all this while if they know I committed a crime?

When it became clear that he doesn't know what he was saying and I was shouting at the top of my voice.
The officer now told me to calm down that he doesn't side injustice, he said he was not the one that saw me when I beat the light that it was their driver who said hecsaw me beat the light that we go to him.

We went to the police driver and he was just saying he saw me beat the light and I insisted that I didn't beat the light.
I asked him to take me to the particular light, they were just saying the one at the back.
I told them I've drove past like 6 lights which of them? They couldn't answer.

They now said since I am arguing we should go to the station. I told them to take me anywhere I was very sure I didn't run a redlight.

We got to the station, they said I should park my car in their garage close to the fence that the way things are going maybe the car will never leave their station again.
I said no problem, since it was a police station.
They asked me to bring my papers and I gave them.
They asked for drivers license, I gave them.
They asked for spare tyre, jack, e.t.c I gave them all.

They said instead for me to settle with them and leave with my car,I am here arguing.
I said officers if I've committed any offense I am ready to pay the penalty but in this case I didn't do any thing.

They now said we were 2 cars that beat the light, the other person have accepted that he is guilty, I asked them were the other person was and they showed me the driver.

I asked the man if he saw me run a red light.
He said
"Oga na me and you beat the traffic light no need to argue just settle with them"
I asked the man how he saw me beat the light.
He said " Oga, you dey front, me I dey your back, you beat the traffic light, I come follow you beat am" just settle with them.

After saying this the man entered the same truck I saw with the police officers earlier and left.
It became clear to me that there was no way out.

They were now saying "Oga you see am, now we don get witness even if na for court we go win you"
I was shocked and dumbfounded.
They brought out a book they called "code of conduct" and said Oga read no.25.
I looked at the headings and it was code of conduct for commercial vehicles.
No. 25 carries a fine of 25k for running a redlight.

They said I should go bring 25k, if not they will book me.
I ended up giving them 5k to allow me go.
They connived with the said "other driver" to extort money from.

Beware of Enugu police officers.

A police officer was complaining about the number of suits being faced by their department. I saw that the main reason is abuse of office.

OP, these ones that apprehended you were very criminally smart. They looked in your car and saw that you have no witness and came after you. They know it is easier to sort them 5k than to spend more than 10times the amount in a court case. Especially if it's a bleak court case.

I don't think it will be overkill if we start installing cameras on our cars.

Story about your ordeal with our so called law enforcers... most times it would save one an ample time to just be jovial towards these lots whenever you are accosted by them. They've twisted the law in their favours such that standing on your right will seem as an affront and a ground to oppress and molest you the more.
From your story if actually you never beat the red light, it's obvious they have colluded with the second driver in the favour to make you part with some huge sum as a fine.

sorry about that ordeal once again.

There was no other driver in the real sense, he was created by the dubious police officers.
I saw him earlier with them before we got to d station.
