Today in History.
Exactly on this day 24 years ago the whole stretch of Ikwerre Road in Port Harcourt Rivers State was occupied by the Ikwerres, sympathisers especially the Ogonis (He was a very close friend of Saro-Wiwa) and hoodlums as well in response to the cold blooded murder of respected and renowned Late Senator Dr. Obi Wali.
Late Sen. Dr. Obi Wali... (27th Feb, 1932 - 26th April, 1993) was a minority rights activist, Politician, Distinguished senator, Literary scholar and an Orator from Nigeria.

Among his achievements, he fought for the cause of the Ikwerre ethnic minorities and argued that African literature should be written in African languages.

He was one of the best known leaders from the Niger Delta region to consistently campaign against the marginalization of the Niger Delta people (particularly the Ikwerre ethnic nationality). He fought for the creation of Port Harcourt State out of then Rivers State. Creating the Port Harcourt State for the Ikwerre people was an important achievement in his advocacy for the end of the marginalization and oppression of the Ikwerre, and the state inspired exploitation of their resources.

He was murdered and dismembered right in his bedroom.

His house in rumuigbo is now an eyesore.

Having said that, he was an extremely diabolical man who maltreated His first wife in favour of the second.

Senator Obi Wali.... I was a lil kid, in Port Harcourt then, during his burial. A long time ago. Its obvious he was working into integrating the Ikwerre national ethnic group into the Igbo nation before his murder.... a sad event

I seriously doubted this. No learned Ikwerre man would contemplate that.

rumors alleged then that the "wife" at home aided the attackers to butcher the guy to death in his own bedroom.
