We are gearing up for a very interesting era. It seems freedom of movement in certain parts of the earth will soon be a thing of the past.

The Syria - Turkey wall.

First, this is a violation of the internationally agreed laws of war because its stopping the refugees from seeking a safe place during war. Its unfortunate they were seeking that refuge in Europe.

Not sure Africa with shared tribes across borders would do it. We had a wall fencing off Europe from immigrants on a colonial Island.

Building wall is the new phenomenon ...

The fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War helped usher in unfettered globalization, he argues, but now a backlash is underway. Globalization has gradually produced a desire in certain parts of the world for separation —particularly after a series of traumas, including the 9/11 attacks and the global financial crisis, exposed the hazards of freewheeling integration. And separation is increasingly being achieved through physical barriers.

Security fears and a widespread refusal to help refugees have fuelled a new spate of wall-building around the world

A third of the world's countries have completed or are building barriers – compared to 16 at the fall of the Berlin Wall

They include Israel's 'apartheid wall', India's 2,500-mile fence around Bangladesh and Morocco's huge sand 'berm'

Experts are dismissive, saying: 'Their main function is theatre. They provide the sense of security, not real security'
