Former Central Bank Governor and professor of Economics, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has said that President Muhammedu Buhari inherited a bad economy from the previous Goodluck Jonathan’s administration on 29th May 2015 and made it worse. He made this known to newsmen at ‘Big Ideas Podium’, a public policy debate organised by the Afri Heritage Institution in Enugu. According to him via ‘Thecable’, “Buhari met a very bad situation when he assumed power, but he has made the situation worse. Nigeria today is a fragile state with a failing economy. Some say failing state; some say failed state”. “The economy is not just in recession; we are suffering from massive economic compression. Saying it is recession trivializes the issue. Soludo “It will be a miracle if after eight years, by the time it leaves office in 2023, the current administration is able to return the economy in dollar terms to the exchange rate it met when it took over. “The truth is this government inherited a very bad situation, but it has made it very much worse.” He alleged that Nigeria, as currently structured, favours only a “privileged few”. Soludo lamented that the north, a region which has produced many Nigerian leaders, still wallows in poverty. He said despite having many Igbos in power during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, many roads in the south-east region were still in bad shape. “Nigeria is not working in anybody’s interest except that of the privileged few and because of this, there is an obsession with unnecessary distractions, like which part of the country produces the president. You can have the president, the vice- president and all the ministers from one village and the life of the ordinary people from that village will not move from point A to point B,” he said. “The north has ruled the country for several years, but poverty, to a very large extent, is a northern problem. “In the last dispensation, we had Jonathan as president, the finance ministry and almost all the financial institutions of government were headed by Igbos then, but we still don’t have any motorable federal road in Igboland.”

Let's forget the messenger and concentrate on the message abit
Jonathan didn't do anything in the east
He only empowered some eastern thieves by giving them access to our treasury

That Enugu onitsha express is an indictment on the government and person of GEJ

He failed while in office
He is failing woefully even out of office

No doubt, GEJ failed! He was a failure due to his too softness while in office, but those that are there presently, whom we believe will correct the anomalies of GEJ maladministration are even worse, they're epidemic failure! The only thing they're good at is blaming the immediate past administration!

Shame on PDP and biggest shame on APC!

The so called Igbo leaders are responsible for bad roads and poor infrastructures in southeast due to selfishness and love of money. EKWEREUMADU pocketed Enugu-Onitsha express way allocation in 2011 budget.Speech here and there will never make an difference rather action is the way forward.Let's stop praising criminals but instead ask questions and if possible stone them with eggs.

The most annoying thing about igbo people is that they always failed to tell themselves the truth..

They abandon their problem somewhere and started chasing BUHARI like say their problem just started today.

Not far away from the Truth. In as much as I hate Buhari because he lacks leadership vision and his nepotism is second to none, the failure of GEJ to work for SE and the failure of leaders from SE zone to compel him to work left me with a lot of imaginations.

Buhari had the chance of winning SE to his favour, what a visionary leader will do but decided to go nepotic even after he came to power in a crooked way. He taught just like Abiola, he can do without the Igbo's. The rest is gradually becoming history now. No leader and I repeat, no nepotic leader can make any meaningful progress in NIGERIA.

And I am one of the proponents of a restructured Nigeria. The north does not want that but Nigeria has failed to progress. Can we continue to support corrupt leaders play with our destiny?
Did u check how many private jets that visited IBB wedding? I have argued with people that keep on telling me same leaders will be in power if we go co federal. But surely we have the likes of Fashola, Soludos and good people in every zone. You will be surprised how I will cast my vote for Nnamdi KANU in the event of such co federation. You may hate him but I like him. None of your business.

Truth is Nigeria need a rethink over the so called one Nigeria. Funny those international countries promoting one federation in our country do not operate similar structure in their country. UK example. But blacks are really terrible.

Ihe mere anyi n' Imo:
If like me you grew up in the old Imo State (Imo, Abia and the Afikpo axis of Ebonyi) and were already in primary school in 1984, you must have paid SURVIVAL LEVY. That was our own dividend of Buhari’s military government.
After stealing power with the gun, Buhari sacked all politicians. Our then governor, the affable Dee Sam Mbakwe, was hounded and detained. We were told that he was corrupt. But Mbakwe, an administrator par excellence, was a man who made our state the envy of all with the little we had. Golden Guinea Breweries Umuahia was fully functional. Ditto for Ceramics Industries, Umuahia. Adapalm Ohaji was also blasting full throttle. So were Imo Modern Poultry, Obowo and Standard Shoes, Owerri. The Aluminium Extrusion Company, Ikeduru and the Aba Glass Industries were at advanced stages of completion.
Aba had already become a manufacturing hub in West Africa, with SMEs germinating at every nook and cranny. The enabling environment had been created and we had blue chip companies that were doing exceptionally well. Nigerian Breweries plc was doing well. Liver Brothers, PZ, International Equitable (makers of Appolo detergent), Nigerian Bottling Company and Aba Textile Mills were performing greatly. In addition, Star Paper Mill, Starline Nigeria, Falcon Breweries (makers of Royal Crown and Upper 10), Osondu Bottling Company, Dubic Breweries, Dubic Industries, Onwuka Interbiz (makers of Intersoft), among others were also excelling. People came from the West African coast, Cameroon, Gabon, Equitorial Guinea, etc to patronise Aba businesses. Yet, the man who kept Imo running smoothly despite little funds was jailed for being a corrupt failure.
In Mbakwe’s place, Buhari brought the then Brigadier Ike Nwachukwu (whose mother from Buhari’s old Kaduna State) to superintend over us. Since we were told that Mbakwe was corrupt, we felt that St Buhari’s appointee, St Nwachukwu, would take us to Eldorado. How wrong we were! Nwachukwu began by sacking all Mbakwe’s appointees in the state owned companies, replacing them with his cronies or cronies of his cronies. It was then that the seed of the current happenings in the old Imo was planted.
To cap our woes, Nwachukwu scammed us. He decreed that everybody in Imo should pay SURVIVAL LEVY to redeem the state from the ‘evil’ of Mbakwe. As a pupil, my parents paid N12 for me. Yes, N12. It was a relatively huge amount then. Till today, nobody can point to what Ike Nwachukwu did with the huge amount he collected from us. But the incorruptible emperor at Dodan Barracks, Lagos, St Buhari never saw this as corruption. Ironically, the corrupt Mbakwe never levied us. Yet he performed wonders.
Ironically, those who romanticise Buhari tell us that he is the only Nigeria who holds the broom that can sweep corruption out of Nigeria. Yet, this is a man under whose watch as the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) chairman that Afri-Projects Consortium (APC), a company which belonged to his in-law, late Ahmad Salihijo, made a kill. Afri-Projects was PTF’s major contractor and Buhari allowed the company to overcharge the fund to the tune of a whooping N25billion- according to an investigative panel set up in 1999 by the then President Obasanjo.
Curiously, Salihijo reportedly collapsed and died when he heard that a committee had been set up to probe PTF.
Positive change is what we need.

someone wrote the above about buhari (which is true) so, you can see that the igbo had legitimate reason to kick against buhari-more especially, since he did nothing to remedy it(he didn't even find the east worthy of his presence during many of his prior campaigns)

if tomorrow yoruba votes buhari out would it also mean betrayal? buhari has failed and we will vote him out if he contests in 2019 not minding whose ox is gored.

Soludo appears to be confused these days as he now speaks with both sides of the mouth.

But sha Jonathan was an error in government, a disaster to Nigeria and a bad market to the Igbos

The support for Jonathan has proven the point that Igbos have a wrong political calculations and alliances, always on the wrong side but they ends up blaming everyone for woes
