The first quarter release of World best Universities(based on research publications) was released in the first quarter of 2017 by Cybermetrics lab, Spain. In the African rankings University of Capetown(which is a public university) took First overall as usual. However this list is about private universities in the top 200 African rankings which showed some private universities move up the rank.
South African private universities are also conspicously absent because the Education Act S/Africa prohibits private institutions from being registered as Universities. CU has probably has the highest number of patents in this country e.g Energy retention bag, DOF board, Intelligent chair, PAWKA, solar powered something e.t.c CU has also won awards for for her patents in S/Korea, Brazil and even Ministry of Sci Tech but you won't know because you were busy watching BBN.
NOTAP even has an office in CU which is testament to the amount of products CU patents. If i'm not wrong there are about 10 products currently awaiting confirmation by NOTAP.
