The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, is in the final stage of signing $6 billion deal with local and international traders to exchange about 330,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil for imported petrol and diesel.

The deals, which were previously referred to as offshore crude oil processing agreements (OPAs) and crude-for-products exchange arrangements, are now known as Direct Sale-Direct Purchase Agreements (DSDP).

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, had said the DSDP was adopted to replace the oil swaps and the offshore processing contracts so as to entrench transparency into the crude oil-for-product transactions and save the country $1 billion.

The signing of the deals earlier scheduled to take off by April, it was learn, was delayed for three months to allow the NNPC and the oil traders negotiate the fuel specifications, among other issues.

This year’s beneficiaries also exceeded those of last year by three consortiums, indicating the country’s increased dependence on the NNPC for fuel importation.

Kachikwu had stated in Lagos on Wednesday that with the rise of crude oil price above $52 per barrel, the country finds itself reverting to the position it found itself in, in the first and second quarters of 2016 when NNPC was the sole importer of petrol.

Some of the companies that benefited in 2016 also made this year’s list, including Varo Energy, Societe Ivorienne de Raffinage (SIR), Total and Cepsa.

The only thing the dullard have bring to Nigeria is bad policy and reception that his making the country loose billion of dollar to importing crude oil and selling to NNPC and I does not knows how the main minister of petroleum, Pa Buhari is not knows about all these moves by the deputy minister for state who cannot do anything serious without the dullard who we does not even knows were is him.

Bring Mr. Ibu and Pa Buhari in 2019 to contest for Presidency who will you vote for Nigeria?

BTW, I'm FTC undecided

This sounds plausible but a deeper study makes it suspicious of shortchanging Nigeria.

We should allow more individuals to build and own private refineries in Nigeria like Dangote is doing than these deals that have never brought us any success in the oil industry.

What a country! With about 18yrs of a steady democracy, we still have to rely on imported petroleum products.
High oil prices = Subsidy problems.
Low oil prices = Fx scarcity problems.
Either way it goes na problems, problems and problems.

This is the wrong time for anyone who means well to aspire to be president cos too many problems await you.
No wonder Baba just dey sick anyhow.
Ask Ambode why he's succeeding in Lagos today and he'll tell you it's previous back to back progress he's riding on.

Naija we hail thee! One can only but hope at this point.

Now we know better. The mor0ns don't mind taking us 3yrs back just to discredit their predecessors and score cheap political points

Read the content of this link. The reason for the cancellation was clearly stated. It was also added that "The government may not have completely dumped the idea of swaps but the aim is to re-evaluate the whole contracts terminated to extract some favourable terms," the source told Reuters. But just just like the saying goes, You only see what your eyes want to see. Anything that discredits Buhari makes your day. Enjoy.

They painted the last government bad in all ramifications and the zombies are ever ready to swallow their propaganda hook, line and sinker.

I hope this new deal ends issues with supply of petrol.

I doubt we can ever go back to when fuel was 97 naira.

Anti people government is what this current one is.

What is wrong in shouting corruption?

A policy can be condemned for being operated in a corrupt environment, whilst the same policy could still be adopted in a transparent and corrupt free environment.

I just keep on wondering why so low,the level of intelligence of some people on this forum.Yet they are very apt with unwarranted abuses and insults.

Another one of them spotted. grin

English 101 (or is it Verbal Aptitude 101?):

The PMB government never said that A swap deal is a fraudulent deal, but that, the swap deal was being operated fraudulently.

Now, does a fraudulently operated swap deal implies that a swap deal is a fraudulent deal?

However this is not to say that the present government will also get it right!

But of course ,the fact that people(fraudulent or not) fail in business, for instance, should not deter others(fraudulent or not) from trying...

Only those with low intellect will not understand lipsrsealed
