Welcome to Israel: Trump lands in Tel Aviv in pursuit of an elusive peace deal and vows to 'build a future where all our children can grow up strong and free of terrorism and violence'

Trump will arrive in Jerusalem on Monday afternoon to meet Israel's president
He will then meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in pursuit of peace
On Tuesday, US President will meet Palestinian Authority President in Bethlehem
He wants to broker peace between the countries and is confident he can deliver

President Trump and his entourage have landed in Israel for the next leg of the presidential tour of the Middle East.
Having spent the weekend in Saudi Arabia, the Trumps boarded Air Force One this morning in Riyadh ahead of a full day's itinerary.
Hours after delivering a speech vowing to 'drive terrorists out of this earth', he re-iterated his pledge in a welcome speech at Ben Gurion International Airport in Lod near Tel Aviv.
The trip to Israel has been talked up as a pursuit of peace has he meets both Israeli and Palestinian officials with his son-in-law Jared Kushner by his side, the man lauded for his negotiating skills since before the inauguration.

As the presidential plane landed in Tel Aviv, the red carpet was rolled out for the American visitors and soldiers lined the walkway to welcome the Republican.
One landed at 12.25pm local time, 10 minutes behind schedule, and by the time the President and his wife walked down the stairs to shake hands with the gathered welcome party it was 12.40pm.
Melania had changed from an aqua dress that she was seen in leaving Saudi Arabia to a white jacket and skirt and was welcomed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara.
President Trump will try to broker the 'ultimate deal' by meeting with the leaders of Palestine and Israel on the second leg of his first foreign tour.
The president is hopeful he can help the two nations find peace after centuries of conflict.

As he landed in the airport, he said: 'Thank you and shalom.
'It's wonderful to be here in Israel.
'I'm deeply grateful for your invitation and very honored.
'As my first trip abroad as President, I have come to this sacred land to reaffirm the unbreakable bond between the US and the state of Israel.
'In this land, Israel has built one of the great civilizations.
'It is also a nation forged in the commitment that we will never allow the horror and atrocities of the last century to be repeated.
'We must build a future where all our children can grow up strong and grow up free and free of terrorism and violence.
'Over the last few days in Saudi Arabia, I have found new reasons of hope.'

Israeli president Reuben Rivlin welcomed the President and said: 'The people of Israel are excited of your arrival and have great expectation .

Mr President today I will have that honor to host you in Jerusalem,
'We are honored to have you hear to you as we mark 50 years of Jerusalem Day.
'It makes us very happy to know that Israel's most important ally recognizes the importance of Jerusalem to Jewish people over the world.

Donald Trump on Monday became the first sitting US president to visit the Western Wall in the disputed city of Jerusalem, placing his hand on one of the most sacred sites in Judaism.

The Western Wall is the holiest site where Jews can pray. Trump, wearing a black skullcap, paused in front of it, then placed what appeared to be a written prayer or note between its stones, as is custom.

He was not accompanied by any Israeli leaders. Security was tight, with the usually bustling Old City, where the Western Wall is located, essentially on lockdown and the plaza leading to the site cleared.

Trump's daughter Ivanka, who converted to Judaism and is married to one of the president's top aides, Jared Kushner, also visited the women's side of the wall.

Under strict interpretation of Jewish law, men and women must pray separately there.

The Western Wall is the last remnant of the supporting wall of the second Jewish temple, built by King Herod and destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD

The visit there drew controversy before Trump even left Washington, when US officials declined to say whether it belonged to Israel.

The status of Jerusalem is ultra-sensitive and has been among the most difficult issues in Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.

Israel occupied east Jerusalem, where the Western Wall is located, and the West Bank in 1967 in moves never recognised by the international community.

It later annexed east Jerusalem and claims the entire city as its capital. The Palestinians see east Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.

The traditional US position has been that Jerusalem's status must be negotiated between the two sides.

Trump's visit to the wall came as part of his first trip abroad as president. The trip includes stops at important sites for Christians, Muslims and Jews.

The first leg of his trip was in Saudi Arabia, while later stops will include the Vatican.

This peace deal is elusive indeed. Good point.
