- The Kano state House of Assembly has suspended the probe of Muhammad Sanusi II, the emir of Kano

- The Kano state anti-graft agency was investigating alleged misuse of N6 billion by Muhammadu Sanusi II’s Emirate Council

- But Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission some days ago dropped its probe into the financial dealings of the Emirate council

The Kano state House of Assembly has suspended the probe of Muhammad Sanusi II, the emir of Kano.

Kabiru Rurum, speaker of the Assembly, who announced this at plenary on Monday May 22, said the action followed the intervention of some prominent Nigerians, according to Cable news.

NAIJ.com gathered that Rurum disclosed that Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of the state, sent a letter to the lawmakers to appeal that the exercise be put on hold.

Rurum said the governor’s letter listed some prominent Nigerians who had appealed to him to stop the probe.

The list, according to the speaker, includes the acting President Yemi Osinbajo, former heads of state Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III, Aliko Dangote, and Aminu Dantata, among others.

The Kano state anti-graft agency was investigating alleged misuse of N6 billion by Muhammadu Sanusi II’s Emirate Council.

Emir Sanusi’s probe followed his comments in a Kaduna summit where he blamed backwardness of the northern region on bad leadership and self centredness.

NAIJ.com had previously reported that Rurum had insisted that the House of Representatives has no right to intervene in the ongoing investigation of Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano.

The Speaker said this in response to call of a House of Representatives member, Aliyu Sani Madakin Gini (APC, Dala), urging the House to intervene in the probe of the Emir by the
Kano Assembly.

NAIJ.ocm also reported that the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission some days ago dropped its probe into the financial dealings of the
Emirate council.

The development was revealed by the chairman of the Commission Muhyi Gado, who said the commission was suspending
the probe it started some days ago indefinitely.

In his letter, Governor Ganduje said he was calling for the investigation to be dropped
as a result of interventions by highly-placed personalities in the matter.

These personalities, according to the letter, include the acting president, Yemi Osinbajo;

party leaders; former heads of state Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar;

Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar; and to businessmen and indigenes of the state, Aliko Dangote and Aminu Dantata.

Mr. Ganduje said although he was reluctant to interfere in the activities of the state’s legislative arm, he appealed to the lawmakers to “temper justice with mercy” and allow peace prevail.

“Much as I recognize your independence as a separate arm of government and who has
right to investigate the emir, I am pleading with you to allow peace prevail”, he stated.

He said there had been a meeting in Kaduna over the matter “at the instance of some governors”.

“There is no gain saying (the fact) that the Emir Muhammadu Sunusi ii has admitted all his faults and mistakes and agreed to make
adjustment. I think at this juncture, we should allow peace as been achieved to continue”, the governor stated.

The House subsequently resolved to drop the probe.
