It's good to be productively occupied but not too good to be so oƧcupied that you unconsciously dash a portion of your hard earned money to strangers rather than your loved ones or next of kin. With the advent of internet banking and mobile banking, you can share your banking details with your spouse/next of kin as a proactive measure of preserving your wealth after demise.

Alternatively, you could run a joint account with a mandate of either person to sign. Of course, trust and financial discipline of the additional signatory (ies) would be vital consideration. This would curtail the need for the hassle for letter of administration for accessing the deceased's money in bank account(s).

Benefeciaries who have plowed the path of obtaining a letter of administration (LOA) of a deceased person can testify that the cumbersome process could either have been mitigated or eradicated. Some next of kin even end up forfeiting the monetary and non-monetary assets if the cost of pursuing the LOA outweighs the value of the estate. Thus, the hard earned sweat of the deceased flows to the hands of "strangers". By stranger, I mean any other person apart from the next of kin.

I believe with more enlightenment of the middle aged and senior citizens in this regard, the need for LOA for bank deposits would be reduced to the barest minimum.
