The Premier University Undergraduate students have just been ordered to leave the hostels and go to their houses. The Vice Chancellor said this on the University Radio (Diamond FM 101.1fm ) few minutes ago. This came as a result of protests by the students ravaging the school recently as a result of some issues like ban on using hot plates in all hostels in the institution. The Vice Chancellor said the students are to resume back July 17, 2017 |

It's now becoming a norm for UI. Students go on protests against lack of welfarism from the administration, the next thing the admin do is to declare closure of the school. And we keep saying that the politicians are the only problem we have in the country. #SMH.... 1 Like |

Let's call a spade a spade. Neither the management nor the students are at fault here. Federal universities are now grossly underfunded and their low tuition fees (unlike state and private universities ) make it difficult for them to have substantial IGR that can make up for allocation shortfall from FG, which has been the norm in most recent times. Government has only two choices in this matter: restore the universities allocations to what they were before now or better still, increase such. The second option is to allow federal universities increase tuition fees according to their demands or needs since government has failed to live up to its responsibility. On a more serious note, an indefinite strike action is long overdue by the university labour unions. Seems they have been intimidated by the government of the day like the NLC & TUC. They should remember we have a 'deaf' president. They need to drum it louder and longer for him to hear them. 1 Like |

Jossy4luv1: Who are those clueless students that decided to go on rampage because of a ban on hot plates? They deserve to be flogged and rusticated! Other people hold protests to address more serious issues, and these ones are demonstrating against a ban on hot plates. Dem swear for una??! Cooking gas don finish for town?
