At the inception of this administration in May 2015, the average generation of Power was 3,324MW and it eventually increased to 4,357MW in August 2015 and rose to a peak generation of 5,077MW in February 2016 but presently the average generation is about 3000MW as a result of spate of gas infrastructure vandalism and low level of water in the dams during dry season which affects the output of the 3 main Hydro Power Stations.

On legacy projects that will enable Government achieve its Road Map to incremental power supply, the Zungeru 700MW Hydro Power plant recently reported 40 per cent job done. Also recently, the two Consortium of Chinese Companies viz: CNEEC and Sino Hydro Power performed the ceremony of River Closure for the construction of Turbines of the Zungeru Power Plant which is expected to be completed in the last quarter of 2019.

The new Private owners with assistance from International Funding Agencies, embarked on rehabilitation of some Power facilities, which led to successful recoveries in generation capacities in the following brownfields:- Shiroro from 450MW to 600MW, Ughelli from 120MW to 650MW, Kainji from 120MW to ***340MW, Sapele from 70MW to 120MW and Egbin from 328MW to 1,320MW. Other projects include;
The Kashimbilla Hydropower plant which is 99% completed and the Dam was impounded in the 2nd week of March, 2017. The spillway is expected to spill in 45 days depending on the rainfall, meaning that the turbines are set to generate power. Works on the evacuation of power including transmission lines, switchyard and substations from the power plant to Takum, to Wukari to the Yandev 132KV existing substation is 45% completed as at 30th March, 2017. The Power evacution project is expected to be completed by 2nd quarter of 2018 subject to availability of funds.

The Ministry is about to complete the Katsina Wind Farm which has an installed capacity of 10.175MW and is currently 95% completed.
The 3050MW Mambilla Hydro Power Plant- is under negotiation and rapid progress is being made to start construction this year. The project is to be financed by the Chinese Export- Import Bank (CEXIM).

Government has given approval for N701bn payment assurance guarentee to ensure liquidity stability in the sector so that Gas Generating companies are paid for their services.
The 215MW Dual- Fired Plant in Kudenda, Kaduna, which was conceived as a source of power aimed at reviving the ailing textile industry in the State is nearing completion.

Fourteen (14) nos. Solar Power Projects have had their Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) concluded and all have paid their development deposits. The process when complteted will lead to the production of 1200MW of solar electricity.
The Azura 450MW Independent Power Project located in Edo state, is going on as scheduled as all legal, technical and financial transactions have since been concluded;

The 1.2MW solar - powered plant financed by the Japanese International Agency, JICA, has been completed and commissioned and it is to energize the Water Treatment Plant at Lower Usuma- Dam, in Bwari- Abuja.
The Federal Executive Council approved the concessioning of 6 small Hydro Electric Power plants namely; Bakolori, Oyan, Challawa, Tiga, Kampe, Zobe and Jibia. Expressions of Interest that were received are being evaluated for further procurement action.

Major Transmission projects which were captured in 2016 appropriation that would steadily increase the wheeling capacity of the grid are progressing and some have been completed. The grid has grown from 5000 MW to 6,200 MW wheeling capacity;
The Rural Electrification Implementation Plan which ought to have been approved since 2006 was finally approved by President Buhari in 2016 and implementation will boost electrification of the Rural areas and boost Electricity supply in the country.

The Renewable Energy Policy is expected to help the Power Sector explore other sources of Energy such as Solar, Wind, Coal, Biomass, Small Hydro, etc, in order to have a robust energy mix and remove overdependence on gas-to –power energy.
Human Capacity Development: Training and retraining of technical officers in Renewable Technologies by National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN);
The Power Sector Investments Guidelines and Opportunities were launched during the 2nd edition of National Council on Power in July 2016. The objective is to develop a strong energy mix , prevent single source reliance, utilize energy sources like coal, solar, wind and guide domestic and foreign investment to the Power Sector;
The IkotEkpene Transmission sub-station was commissioned by the Honourable Minister on 21stNovember 2016; this facility is enabling the evacuation of power from Calabar and Alaoji Power Plants. The (2) two Power Plants that could not evacuate their power before now.
With the passage of the 2017 Budget, Government is now set to deploy power to 37 Universities and 7 Teaching Hospitals as part of its access to power commitment and Incremental power plank of its Road map.

To enable Power Sector contractors collect their electricity equipment imported into the country some years back, and stranded in the ports for almost a decade government has paid the backlog of charges under the 2016 Budget and secured the release of over 300 containers. This action will help the contractors resume work in their respective sites. Government is still working to secure the release of the balance.
