WHO DENIGRATES KONGI, THE LITERARY KONIG?


The recently concluded Presidential Elections in the U.S, unarguably the murkiest and most controversial ever has seen many Nigerians pitched their tents with either of the two gladiators, former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton and the brash New York Billionaire, Donald Trump.

Due to several reasons ranging from World Security, Racism, Economic Policy, Gender consideration, World View, Knowledge, Fear, Love, Hatred etc, everyone in Nigeria seemed to have adopted an American candidate that he would love to see take the reins as the 45th U.S President as from January, 20th, 2017.

Our revered 'Wande 'Wole Soyinka was one of those and he gunned for Hillary Clinton. He so much despised a Trump Presidency that he vowed to do away with his American Green Card, highly-prized here in Nigeria if Donald Trump by any chance, became POTUS. Soyinka was not alone in this. I have a White American Professor who vowed in August, 2015 to renounce his citizenship and leave the U.S if Trump became POTUS.
The man is still there the last time I checked.

By a twist of fate, Donald Trump won and since his win, many Nigerians have not only asked him to fulfill his promise but have done so in a manner bereft of common sense, courtesy, respect and honour while making him the butt of online jokes and trolling.

Who should denigrate Wole Soyinka? No Biafran worth that name, no Nigerian of honour, no people of conscience should.

Wole Soyinka is one of the few Nigerians who has not soiled his hands looking for filthy lucre. He wrote, fought, and demonstrated for BIAFRA. He was jailed by Gowon for BIAFRA. Ojukwu trusted him. The MEND and the other Niger-Delta terrorists/militants rever and trust him. He founded what is today known as the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), a noble initiative that protects lives and employs thousands of Nigerians. He fought as the leading light of NADECO, a democractic struggle front and was EXILED for a democracy that he has not directly benefitted from save for the recent appointment of his brilliant Doctor son, Oluokun Soyinka, as the Commissioner for Health in Ogun State.

It was while in exile scheming with other Nigerians to bring back democracy that he was granted the Green Card without application by former President Jimmy Carter to enable him meet with other democracy fighters exiled and domiciled outside of the Big Apple.

All of these fighters of democracy with the exception of the Konig Kongi had gone on to become Senators, Governors, Ministers, Attorneys-General and Political Godfathers.

For the bigoted lots who will not stop ruing Wole Soyinka's Nobel Prize win in a contest that did not even include their kinsman, Wole is more than the popularity of his books or the dramas he has directed. He put a human face to writing. He doesn't write clannish, biased, inflammatory, divisive and one-sided memoirs. He is renowned for saying the truth to hurt. He has put his life in the line many times trying to enact what he preaches in his books and walking his many talks. He is one man who deserves the respect and honour of all.

This was why he got a well-deserved honour in faraway Stockholm in 1986.

So, who denigrates Kongi, the literary Konig? Maladjusted Nigerians, tribal bigots, ingrates, ignoramuses and as he aptly described them, illiterates.

On a serious note, bro, if we really want to be rational, who's the worst candidate between Hillary and Trump? First, both are evils but which of them is worse?

Trump is just a loud mouthed guy who talks more than he acts. Hillary was the quiet witch that joined in destroying Libya and Aleppo.

The difference between both is that Trump is blunt and Hillary is the more intelligent and deadly killer.

Trump tells you what he'd do and he does it. Hillary tells you what she will do and do another thing all together.

Trump hasn't killed anyone but Hillary has even if indirectly. Both are evil but anybody who wants to be factual and logical knows who's more evil.

Now to Sole Soyinka. Whatever ridicule he got there was summoned by his utterances. We saw a man eat bug on live TV when Trump won but our sage, instead of doing what he said immediately, he choose to play upon words. On a philosophical level, I don't think it makes any sense to leave a country where your impart was highly needed, a people you could reshape, to the hands of a destructive psychotherapist like Trump. But I don't think the masses hate him for this but for his failure to stick, immediately, to his words.

I disagree on the issue of soiling his hands. He has. I can't reconcile a Wole Soyinka rolling with Amechi and Bola Tinubu but hating on Dino Melaye and his Shepopotamus. It's contradictory to any logical mind. A good man detests all thieves. When you begin to select the thieves to roll with the word in integrity ceases to be around you.
