Php Vs Python by kelrob: 12:23am On Jun 07
Please as a web developer, I will like to know which is better and makes a better web app. PHP or PYTHON
Re: Php Vs Python by badthinds: 1:04am On Jun 07
Star mouth screwdriver and Flat mouth screwdriver which is better for loosening a screw nut?.
It depends on the kind of nut right ?
Python and PHP are screwdrivers.

kelrob:php is the most widely used web language, its only used for web , but python is a general lang like java.
For me i will go for php, because python is not widely used for web app in production, most host does not support python.
But python has more application than php

Well, individual differences. But I think I can use DJango (Python) and the likes to create better webapps

python is recommended as the first language to learn and i encourage you to start with it. its expressive like english language and will make learning other languages very easy for you.

Yeah, You are welcome

This line does NOT work for ASM, C++ believe me!

Re: Php Vs Python by Olyboy16(m): 7:40am On Jun 22
Hibrahym:very very true! Infact new modern c++ semantics are making the language almost impossible to learn for pydevs (i like it that way though).
Re: Php Vs Python by Olyboy16(m): 7:55am On Jun 22
bet9ja:bros, please dont mislead this Op.
OP, if you intend to develop websites, use php.
if you intend to do more than just serve web pages and create user portals, then go for python;( need long running processes, sockets, or APIs).
but if you intend to create a SaaS like online gaming, CRM, accounting or highly distributed computes then use C#(ASP .net).
i've got over 5 years exp with php, got my own framework. Also got 4 years exp with python nd C#...so i knw quite well what i'm saying!

Rule No 1: Never start out learning a fake language!

Rule No 1: Never start out learning a fake language!
There are too many things missing in those Bread & butter languages. They are NOT good to start with, for any dev serious about tech.
I still say this: the best Java, Python, PHP, C# are the C, C++ guys who happen to explore that world.
After learning sth like C, C++, and those of their categories most langs becomes " a stroll in the park", except of course, you know Assembly (Public Enemy NO. 2)
Re: Php Vs Python by kudaisi(m): 2:21am On Jun 25
abula112:This post is misguided and tantamount to misinformation.
php is the most widely used web languagePHP is more widely used than the sum of the percentage usage of all other programming languages in web development (Just stating it explicitly so the OP knows that PHP's advantage in this section is not limited to python alone.)
its only used for webThis is not true (Emphasis on ONLY).
python is not widely used for web app in productionThis is also false. While its usage is not in par with PHP, Python is among the top 10 programming languages used for web development.
most host does not support pythonThis is misleading, most hosts (all serious ones at least) offer Dedicated/Virtual private server services that gives you access to your own private Server, you can then set it up as you wish (meaning you can install and configure whatever service you want the server to host with full autonomy).
general lang like javaWhile both python and java are both interpreted general purpose programming languages, python can also be used for scripting because of its support for dynamic typing and access to interactive mode (in addition to the normal mode ).

All languages have their strengths and weaknesses.
Php or python -- anyone is okay...
If you choose Php, in no time you'll be so efficient at webdev (if one is smart)
if you choose python, you'll have to learn core python and then pickup a framework(django) before you'd have
the knowledge to create a reasonable site.
Truth be told, to reduce unnecessary traffic on a site -- adopt the ajax tech.
only use the server side language to retrieve and or store data.
If you can adopt these techniques, it shall make your life deliciously simple because the world is delving towards js.
Js can even run on the server side(nodejs)...

Java an interpreted language
And you were fast to condemn another's post!
Re: Php Vs Python by adejumoadeoluwa(m): 8:12pm On Jul 07
the fact that you are asking this question means that you are definitely new to programming now here is the best answer you will get
any time you have to ask, which is better x vs y ? the correct answer is anyone...chances are you will need to end up learning both anyways
so all that time spent on nitpicking equals waste
get started already...
Re: Php Vs Python by seunthomas: 8:22pm On Jul 07
Raypawer:He meant that Java and Python are both regarded as General Purpose Languages.
Re: Php Vs Python by seunthomas: 8:25pm On Jul 07
If i were to advice the OP, just go ahead and Learn python. Take this from someone who has been doing this for a long time. The bad thing about python is you may not get too many jobs or job offers, but python is far more advance in terms of functionality, libraries than php can muster. And it will be so for a very long time. It is also the preferred language for POC (Proof of concept), if you are working on a new and very risky area, its always better to prototype with python. If it can be done in python, then it most likely would be doable in just about any other reasonable language.

Re: Php Vs Python by sharrp: 4:06am On Jul 08
Hibrahym:This is also false. Learning python makes learning c++ a lot easier. Loops are loops, conditions are conditions , only synatic different and static typing. Import statements are like #include "headerfile". The oop concepts are the same. A python programmer will pick up c++ faster than a complete newbie
