N200k Post Office Charges Pls I Need Advice. by desmond2pk: 3:35pm On Jun 07, 2017
As a small business owner, I bought car keys from ebay that are not worth more than $500 equivalent to N185000. The shipper paid for shipping fees which I am yet to pay him back. The post office personal called me this morning that I should come to claim my package with N200k or more.
This is very ridiculous. Someone somewhere is not doing his work properly.
I have told the sender to request for the items back because there is no way I can pay N200,000 for something I paid N1500 to receive just two month ago or less.
I need advice from anyone who has experienced this type of thing from Nigeria post office.
For now, the only solution that came to my mind is for the sender to request it back.

They charge 500 naira per 0.54kg
Maybe the weight is much

Go there first if u do not get favorable conclusion tell them u will have the goods recalled because of their charges

Nipost should only charge you when you are sending and not when you are receiving. Go and demand to meet with the oga at the top, make further inquiries but I don't think you have to pay any money in the first place. I receive posts from AliExpress and all I give them at the post office is money for call which is anything from my heart.

Oga, go there with your lawyer or bouncer jare, if anybody try to tell u rubbish, give the person the beating of his life, u will only pay 500 naira per KG, if they are package seperately and non is up to 0.5KG, u don't need to pay shishi bt for every package that weigh more than 0.5KG, u will pay 500 naira. Which post office sef?

Princeton god bless you o. Someone wants to eradicate my small business at this critical time that government should be encouraging small business like us. A woman called me from mushin post office. She broke that terrible news to me that N200,000 is written on my package as my fee, that she was surprised to why I was charged so. They became curious to what is inside and when they opened it what they saw was only car keys. She advised me to first come. I sent my passport photopage and a letter of authorization to my wife, so that she can go there. She got there and they referred her to another oga at Somolu post office. When my wife got there, they told her to come tomorrow because they oga has gone. So the only person I have her number is the woman that called me in the morning. My own number is 08137606444. If you call me then I can send the woman's number. I don't think it's wise to expose her number here. Thanks

I'm not sure if they have the right to open your package for whatever reason aside NCS, NDLEA and other security agents in the first place. I believe the sender paid for the shipment, if so, there's no way your charges would be up to that.
If the alleged N200k is legit, they won't be sending your proxy & package to another PO.

the pictures I posted here are the contents of the package. And the prices are there. I can print them out for them to see the costs of the keys. I normally pay N1500 to collect my packages. This is not a container of keys that I should pay N200k.
Re: N200k Post Office Charges Pls I Need Advice. by desmond2pk: 5:25pm On Jun 07, 2017
jboixxx:
Desmond2pk, would advise that you go there and seek for your package. If the despatch officer insist on the 200k, ask to see the EMS manager or their organisational head of the particular PO for clarification. That being said, I know recipients are to pay a handling charge of N500 if package is over 500g.

Let's know the outcome after your visit.
thanks bro. Tomorrow I will update the forum

YobeUPDATE. Finally my wife met the oga at post office somolu. She was told that the bill came from customs. The actual bill is N281k. According to my wife, she expressed her regrets but promise that she would help us forward the case and ensure that justice is done. My wife was told to write a letter of reassessment to the customs which she did immediately and submitted to the woman. The woman promised to help us but then, she is not sure the bill will be drastically reduced to what we used to pay before (N2k).Hmmm!. So now my business, my small business is in the hands of one custom man out there. I need advice on what to do? Does anybody know any big oga custom that can help? Or does anybody have buhari number? Lol. Yes na. I have been helping the government since 10 years. I have employed alot of youths and I have also trained a lot of youths who are on their own now. So my small business can not just be eradicated because of one custom man who didn't do his job well. I need advice pls. Any custom man in the house? You can reach me on 08137606444.

Let's push this to FP. I'm sure the charge isn't legit. How much would they require you to pay if it were to be OKADA sef, let alone a car?
I hope MODs could be of help!

Is this how you want to succeed in your biz? Are you a kid?
It's obvious that someone is trying milk you dry and you are already fidgeting even before going there to ascertain the true situation on ground.

Go there and see who needs to be seen and demand for an explanation. Ensure you see or talk to the bosses there.
Shomolu post office officials are very dubious if they sense you are vulnerable just as you are already displaying.
Re: N200k Post Office Charges Pls I Need Advice. by stpat1(m): 10:16pm On Jun 08, 2017
Ask to see the customs officials that demanded for that amount.
I tell you, they work hand in hand. Sometimes they tell you it's efcc. I know those peeps there. Don't be intimidated. If your stuffs are legit, go all way. They will eventually give in when they sense that you will not bulge and may escalate the issue.

When you are making inquiries, make sure you have names and don't forget to quote those names whenever you get to talk to different officials. They don't want their names flying around so they quickly do the right thing.
Re: N200k Post Office Charges Pls I Need Advice. by desmond2pk: 7:46am On Jun 09, 2017
Attached are some of the keys. Altogether they are not up to $300usd. And they said I should payvN281k which is about $750. I am still owing the sender about $100usd for shipping fee.
Abeg, I need this to get to the front page. Anybody who can help me do this please do for Nigerians sake. N281k to claim a package less than 3kg is more than corruption.

Re: N200k Post Office Charges Pls I Need Advice. by desmond2pk: 5:25pm On Jun 12, 2017
Dear sir,
Permit me to reach you through this medium. I sincerely believe that you will look into my matter and save me from this predicament.
I deal on auto parts and I specialize on car keys.
Recently I bought some keys from US. Mainly Honda keys, Old Toyota keys, Ford keys and others. The costs of the keys are still on the online website that I bought the keys which I will attach some of them here. some of the keys were supplied by a friend who apply the same trade in Chicago United States and we agreed that I would pay him $480, equivalent to N166,500 after I have sold the keys.
On 7th of this month, a lady called me from Mushin post office that my parcel arrived and I should come with N281,000 to claim my parcel. I asked her why I should pay N281,000 for a parcel that I used to pay N1,500, she told me that she doesn't know because the charges is from customs. She referred me to Shomolu post office. Because I was In Abuja, I had to send a letter of authorization to my wife to go there on my behalf and act on my behalf. When she got there, she was advised to write a letter of reassessment to the custom officers that did the first assessment. She wrote the letter and submitted it to the manager at shomolu post office.
We expected something positive because I strongly believe that the charges was given in error. The officers wrongly assumed that I was a car importer and the keys belonged to cars I imported. Because I can't see any reason anybody can charge me N281,000 on a parcel that is not more than 3 kg. Some of the keys are not worth more that N5,000 in our ladipo MARKET.
Sir, I am begging you to quickly intervene to save my business and to save me from going into debt.
Right now the parcel is with them at the post office. I do not have the numbers of the custom officers but I sure have the number of the manager shomolu post office. I believe through her you can get in touch with the custom officers who billed me N281,000 for a parcel of keys that are not up to $500.
I can be reached on this phone numbers. 08137606444 or 08146282886.
Below are some of the keys and their prices from the online shop I bought them.

Hoping to hear from you soonest.

Desmond. I
Shop 42, 169 Ladipo street Mushin. Lagos.
