The decisions we make determine the grace available to us, the Bible says God directs the meek and gives grace to the humble but he resists the proud, the proud always want to hold on to their own way of thinking or ideology as opposed to God's way of thinking.

Let us always remember that God didn't speak to Abraham as long as Lot was with him but immediately Lot departed from him Abraham heard God's clear word of direction. Why? because the bible says that when God called Abraham he called him alone so be determined to obey his voice when he calls you on any assignment.
