The Nigerian police has denied being under any pressure to prosecute Evans, the notorious kidnap suspect - The police said Evans' prosecution is being delayed so that the force can investigate crimes committed by the suspect in other African countries including Ghana - They promise to ensure proper investigation and prosecution of the suspect The Nigeria Police Force has denied that it is under any pressure to prosecute Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, aka Evans who was arrested for alleged kidnapping. NAIJ.com gathered that the force spokesperson, Mr Jimoh Moshood, said the police is trying to do thorough investigations to ensure that all crimes committed by the suspect is discovered and his associate arrested. Recall that the media earlier reported that the Lagos state command of the Nigeria Police Force raised the alarm that it is being pressured to release arrested billionaire kidnap kingpin Evans
Lagos state commissioner of police Galadanshi Dasuki told newsmen on Saturday, June 24 at the command headquarters in Ikeja that the police was not in a hurry to release Evans in spite of calls from different quarters to do so. But Moshood while speaking to Premium Times said not all news regarding Evans from the media should be believed and taken as truth by Nigerians
He said the police are still investigating, including criminal cases involving the suspect in Ghana and other African countries. While explaining that the police would do everything within its capacity to ensure proper investigation and prosecution of the suspect, Mr Moshood noted that the police have no power over the decision of the court on the case
He called on other Nigerians who may have evidences against the suspect to assist the police and the court in the administration of justice. Mr. Moshood, however, noted that the police are not under any pressure from anywhere. “We are not under any pressure and we won’t be,” he said
The media had reported that Evans had dragged the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and three others before the Federal High Court in Lagos over alleged illegal detention. However, when asked about the lawsuits, the suspect denied engaging the services of any lawyer to file a motion for him. He told the press on Sunday, July 2 that the lawsuits were an attempt by some people to put him in more trouble.
