The All Progressives Congress, APC has taken the lead, as collation of results in the Osun West Senatorial District by-election to replace Senator Isiaka Adeleke who died on April 23 begins to trickle in from the polling units.

Election had closed in most polling units as early as 2pm. INEC had announced during a stakeholders meeting organised for political parties contesting the election that accreditation and voting will take place simultaneously.

Most of the polling unit visited by our reporter shows that voting commenced as early as 8am, and its een to be largely peaceful.

It was observed that most people trouped out to vote for the candidates of the two main political parties contesting the election.

Whilst the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate, Otunba Demola Adeleke who casted his vote as early as 8:44am got more votes from Ede axis his main base, the All Progressives Congress, APC Candidate, Sen. Mudashir Husain his leading in at least 7 local governments from the results collated to far.

As results of the senatorial by-election in Osun state continue to trickle in, results being released by officials at polling centres suggest that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Mudashiru Husain is ahead in key area of the district.

Specifically, results from the political constituencies of the major actors in the district politics are gradually emerging.

For instance, while the incumbent speaker, Hon Najeem Salaam recorded maximum votes in Ejigbo local government areas, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Prince Ademola Adeleke showed good strength in Ede, his home town of APC, Hon Rasaq Salinsile delivered Iwo town for the APC by raking in good votes for APC in most of the local government areas including Ayedire and Ola-Oluwa which happens to be part of Iwoland.

Also, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress, Elder Peter Babalola who hails from Irewole local government garnered massive votes for the party which many observers long envisage.
