How can you tax charity donations. Under Nigerian tax laws tax donations are tax exempt. So as a civil servant after taxing my income you still tax the part of my disposable income used as donations? If the beggar invests his money in a business then you may task the proceeds but not his alms. Then it means our children's pocket money would be taxed as well. The minister of finance is clearly ignorant of the existing tax laws. You don't tax donations given to the unemployed. The art of begging is not an economic activity rather it depends on economic activity. The minister might have done better to be a 7 O' clock newscaster on Osun State TV.
