In any democratic setting, the major function of the Legislature is to make laws, and more importantly serve as check on the Executive when it seems to trespass, the Nigerian Legislature has been and is still a grotesque misrepresentation of a true Legislature, Instead of corroborating with the Executive in fighting corruption, It presents itself as instigating corruption as a fundamental bane of development and progress in the society.
Without doubt, The 8th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is antagonistic with the fight against corruption as established by the Buhari led Administration one way or the other, it has indeed shown some traits of disinterest in this battle, Some of these notable traits include, the non confirmation of Magu as the Chairman of EFCC, Magu is very qualified for this honourable position but with the corrupt minded state of our Senators, he was unconfirmed, this implies that most of them have skeleton in their cupboards, most of them have series of cases with the EFCC, and such they believe that if Magu should later become the Chairman of EFCC the cases will be re-opened and justice will be done because Magu is a no nonsense man like our president, this is just by the way, and also on the one hand.
On the other hand, I heard and saw from various media platforms that the Senate had okay five-year jail and #10 million fine for false whistle blowing, after studying this carefully, I concluded by saying it is a way of restraining people from blowing whistle, With this, Fear has been created on the mind of every individuals, Nobody will dare blow whistle again even when it is not a false one. Have it in mind that, this is a constraint on every Nigerians from blowing whistle which had proved to be very fruitful in detecting corrupt fellows, this is another point depicting that the Senators are all corrupt even corruption except very few of them. Who should encourage whistle blowing more other than the Senators if they truly want a corrupt free Nigeria.
Karl Marx said it all "the idea of the ruling class is the ruling idea", the masses are not given the privilege to talk, when the rich commits any illegality, the poor pay for it, but in every circumstances there is still a way out, don't forget this is a democratic setting, the majority still own the power, if only we can all recall our Senators then Nigeria can become great because most of them are corrupt minded individuals, Infact the 8th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a CARICATURE and a GROTESQUE MISREPRESENTATION of a true Legislature, In Marx's word " Conflict is the engine of Change", Let us all restructure Nigeria by recalling all these incompetent law makers, this is Democracy and the power lies in the hand of the Majority.
