Dr. Bukola Saraki

Governors of the 36 states on Thursday night in Abuja resolved to back Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan to assume powers as Acting President.

The meeting, which began at about 9pm, held at the Kwara Lodge. It was presided over by the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Dr. Bukola Saraki, who is also the governor of Kwara State.

They discussed the state of the nation and the Jos crisis.

The governors, who rose around 1am, declared in a communique read by Saraki that they would support Jonathan to continue to act on behalf of ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua, in line with recent court judgments.

They also resolved to ask the National Assembly to pronounce Jonathan Acting President.

The communique read, “The NGF appreciates the provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in relation to the office of the President and Vice-President. the forum also identified with the judgments of the courts on the same and agreed that the position of Acting (President) could either be verbal or written and the vice-president has been appropriately acting admirably.

“The Forum calls on all arms of government to continue to give full and total support to the Acting President until the President returns, in the interest of our dearly beloved country, Nigeria.

“The Forum also resolved to meet with the leadership of the National Assembly with a view to urging them to pass a resolution to formally recognise the Vice-President as the Acting President, in the interest of the nation.”

On the Jos crisis, the governors resolved that it was “not religious but ethnic and political.” They agreed to prevent a spread of the crisis to their states and agreed “to enforce the rule of law by ensuring that those who foment trouble whether political, erligious or ethnic are brought to book.”

The governors also resolved to send relief materials to victims of the Jos crisis.

A Federal High corut in Abuja had on January 13, 2010 ruled that Jonathan should start exercising the powers of president, pending the time Yar’Adua returns from medial treatment in Saudi Arabia.

Governors at the meeting included Alhaji Usman Dakingari (Kebbi); Gabriel Suswan (Benue); Martins Elechi (Ebonyi); Murtala Nyako (Adamawa); Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers); Liyel Imoke (Cross River); Segun Oni (Ekiti); Timipre Sylva (Bayelsa); Aliyu Doma (Nasarawa); Theodore Orji (Abia); and Namadi Sambo (Kaduna).

Others were Babangida Aliyu (Niger); Sullivan Chime (Enugu); Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom); Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta); Ibrahim Shema (Katsina); Aliyu Wammako (Sokoto); Isa Yuguda (Bauchi); Ikedi Ohakim (Imo); Adams Oshiomhole (Edo); and Muhammed Goje (Gombe).

How are we sure Jonathan has a fuc/king clue?
Handing over power ok, but are they handing over to a competent person?
Come to think of it, power was never with an able and competent person in the first place!!!
Nigeria is in shambles. . .
Power transfer from a clueless fella to another clueless fella. . .
Djibouti or Papua New Guinea dont even hand power to people who are not capable, Nigeria is a joke. . .Everything goes in the country!!! grin

This is surely not a question fit for this time. We are talking about how to stop a sick man and his family from holding the entire nation to ransom. Some of us are fairly confident though that Jonathan will be better than Yara WHATEVER.
