Sure Signs That You Have Neuropathy by HealthMagReview: 8:13am On Jul 31, 2017
Did you know that over 70 percent of all diabetics develop peripheral neuropathy as the disease worsens? The bad news doesn’t end there – as a result of the condition, a worryingly big percentage of those patients end up with amputated limbs. On the bright side, neuropathy is a condition that can be taken care of relatively easily. But, only if diagnosed in time!

Prevention is the key to almost all diseases, including neuropathy. For this reason, if you suspect that something might be wrong, it’s crucial to see your doctor right away. Pay attention to the 8 following signs and make sure not to ignore them!

Numbness

In order to realize why numbness is a common symptom of neuropathy, it’s important to understand the basics of this condition. As a result of neuropathy, the nerves are not capable of recognizing the sensory signals. Instead, the nerves register everything as numbness.
Although numbness can occur in every part of your body, in most cases it affects your fingers and toes. The reason is that the nerves in the extremities are most susceptible to damage. The numbness in feet is one of the surest signs of diabetes, although people tend to ignore it. In fact, the diabetes sufferers often react only when the numbness turns into sharp pain.

Sharp Pain

When there is something wrong with your body, you know it by feeling pain. If your nerves get damaged as a result of neuropathy, you’ll know that by feeling pain in the part of the body where the nerve damage had happened.
The pain is described by the patients as extremely sharp. Some compare it to the feeling of being electrocuted. In some cases, the pain is accompanied by the feeling of the tightness of the skin. Some patients report that they feel as if a tight sock has been wrapped around their feet.

Balance Issues

If you feel a bit dizzy from time to time, the culprit might be neuropathy. Again, this has to do with the damaged nerves, especially in your feet. If you feel that you’re losing your balance, the problem might be connected to the numbness or pain in your feet.
Neuropathy is a disease that can strike any part of your body, that is, any type of nerve. If it affects your motor nerves, which are in charge of controlling your muscles, you are bound to have problems with keeping the balance. Furthermore, it is likely that you are going to experience muscle weakness.

Muscle Weakness

Another common sign of neuropathy is muscle weakness. This comes as a result of motor nerves, which are in control of the muscles. Basically, the condition impairs your control of the muscles, which commonly leads to muscle atrophy. In some cases, the problem is so severe that it impairs patients from performing basic daily activities, such as walking or standing upright.

The good news is that there’s a way to deal with the muscle atrophy caused by neuropathy. By introducing a light exercising routine and consuming high-protein foods and supplements, the patients are able to reverse the bad effect of neuropathy.
