55% Of Nigeria's Value Added Tax (VAT) Comes From Lagos- Kemi Adeosun by olab059(m): 5:09pm On Aug 02, 2017
Yesterday, while speaking at a parley between the federal government and the progressive governors forum in Abuja, Nigeria's finance minister, Kemi Adeosun revealed that 55% of Nigeria's total VAT (Value Added Tax) comes from Lagos state.

Below are her words on this...

“55% of Nigeria’s VAT was collected in Lagos State; FCT, 20%; Rivers, 6%; Kano, 5%; and Kaduna, 1%, I’m hoping that one day, finance commissioners will stop needing to come to Abuja monthly to share FAAC, because IGR (internally generated revenue) will be sufficient.” (Daily Post)

It is interesting to know that more than half of Nigeria's VAT comes from Lagos...just one state. Lagos sure is the commercial hub of the country. Lagos has the busiest sea port in the country, the busiest international airport (Murtala Mohamed International Airport), Lagos is the most populated state in Nigeria (20 million citizens), and most companies have their headquarters in Lagos; all these and many more make VAT (Value Added Tax) from Lagos very high.
