The Basis of SCIENTOLOGY (Knowing How to Know, or, the Study of Knowledge,) is DIANETICS (Through Mind,) which is a technique of optimizing the Human Mind.

LAFAYETTE RONALD HUBBARD (1911-1986) was an ex-Navy Engineering School Dropout who became interested in the Mind at an early age, having been an apprentice to a PIKUNI (Blackfeet) Indian Shaman at the age of nine, being befriended by a Court-Martialled officer named Commander "SNAKE" THOMPSON, who happened to be a direct pupil of SIGMUND FREUD (the much'acclaimed Father of PSYCHOANALYSIS,) and a comrade to the notorious ALEISTER CROWLEY (the infamous Father of modern SATANISM). L. RON HUBBARD postulated that the Human Mind was a Computing Calculator, like an ADDING MACHINE, and was itself incapable of Error. However, if one of the ENTRY KEYS were to be HELD DOWN somehow, say, the "SEVEN" Key? Seven would be added unnecessarily to every Calculation. If one wanted to enter "ZERO," the Calculator would say "SEVEN." If one entered "SEVEN," it would say "SEVENTY-SEVEN," and so on.

The hitherto infallible Calculator would become fallible.

L. RON HUBBARD postulated that this is the basis of "HUMAN ERROR," and set out to prove that such "HELD-DOWN KEYS" could be found in the Human Mind, but Released, by a progressive Counseling Technique he called "AUDITING." Once thus happened, the Mind would become CLEARED go its naturally-fkawless and infallible state.

A person who attains the end of such a process is called a "CLEAR."

CHRISTIANS should be able to realize parallels in our own Religion, and find AGREEMENT, and NO CONFLICT at all.

L. RON HUBBARD evaluated the Human Mind as having three main sections: ANALYTICAL, REACTIVE, and SOMATIC.

THE ANALYTICAL MIND calculates and thinks in DIFFERENCES and ASSOCIATIONS, and is more or less infallible.

THE REACTIVE MIND calculates and thinks in IDENTITIES, and presumes that EVERYTHING is EQUAL to EVERYTHING ELSE.

That is: A = B = C = D = E .... = X = Y = Z.

It is the Source of Error.

THE SOMATIC MIND takes SOLUTIONS arrived at by the ANALYTICAL and REACTIVE MINDS, and attempts to implement them PHYSICALLY, as literally as possible.

These properties of the Mind are the Cause of "THE HUMAN CONDITION," and Humans have developed as we have, because we left these "HELD-DOWN KEYS" in our minds, not knowing that they can be permanently resolved.

L. RON HUBBARD called these "HELD-DIWN KEYS" "ENGRAMS."

He taught that THE REACTIVE MIND co trains a "BANK" of ENGRAMS, which consist of WORDS interpreted by it as HYPNOTIC COMMANDS that supersede other Considerations, so that, when allowed to operate, the REACTIVE MIND issues Commands to the SOMATIC MIND that EXAGGERATE, INHIBIT, or BLOCK some Human Ability.

These ENGRAM Commands are installed during experiences of intolerable EMOTIONAL or BODILY PAIN.

They can interfere with any function of theMind or Body against our ANALYTICAL LOGICAL AND REASONABL WILL.

An "ENGRAM" consists of a memory of intolerable Emotional or Bodily Pain, such that the Reactive Mind thinks that it is under threat of Death, therefore, it records all words spoken during that experience, and stores them with intent to use them to SOLVE THAT PAIN, should it APPEAR that that Event is about to happen again.

For instance, suppose some child were crossing the road on a rainy day, and was knocked down by a red car, and the people and the driver say:

"What's wrong with you? Don't you see the STOP sign? Why didn't you stop?"

The child "recovers" from the Event, but an Engram has been planted, that contains temperature, humidity, traffic noise, road smell, impact, car smell and feel, bodily pain, a particular shade of colour red, and the WORDS:

"WHAT'S WRONG."

"DON'T YOU SEE."

"YOU STOP."

Later in life, the person is weakened by stress, trauma, drugs, intoxication, sleep-deprivation, and experiences some of the phenomena that were present on that day. The Engram is activated, and engaged, so that the SOMATIC MIND tries to LITERALLY FULFILL the ENGRAM.

The grown person becomes nervous and paranoid whenever that specific shade of the colour red is involved in their life, or when there is a particular type of traffic noise, when the rain has a particular weight, whenever they see a particular brand of car.... any of the data that is in that Engram.

The "DON'T YOU SEE" component can impair and even terminate their vision.

The "YOU STOP" component can create effects from HESITANCY to TOTAL PARALYSIS.

For this to happen, the victim must not remember WHEN and WHERE that ENGRAM was implanted.

Therefore, when, in DIANETICS AUDITING, the "PRECLEAR" is able to RECALL the specific MEMORY that is the ENGRAM, the EFFECTS caused by the Engram, be they mere nervousness to Blindness and Paralysis, CEASE.

The Healings of DIANETICS are RARELY so dramatic- Auditing for the specific purpose of Healing Physical Ailments is discouraged- besides the LEGAL Consideration of "Practicing Medicine without a License," there is the Spiritual Problem of the cessation of Spiritual Progress, once the primary motivation is gone.

It is very bad to stop Spiritual Enlightenment partway, just because some Short-term Goal has been achieved.

Personally installing Engrams are not a good means of controlling people, when the victim can see the aggressor do it.

They are aware of WHERE and WHEN they obtained the engram, and WHAT the ENGRAM Commands- therefore, they can think about it ANALYTICALLY, so that the MEMORY does NOT go into the REACTIVE MIND BANK.

The Victim must NOT BE ABLE TO RECALL being given an ENGRAM for the engram to work.

Therefore, FORCING SOMEONE DIRECTLY to join or stay in some Religion does not usually produce heartfelt Conversion.

It is POSSIBLE for someone to have been tortured into adherence to some Religion, to no avail, BUT THEN FORGET ALL ABOUT IT, and later in life,,COVERT to THAT Religion, while THINKING THAT IT WAS THEIR OWN IDEA.

We should hope that that is not what usually holds people in bondage to a particular Religion by FEAR.

The ENGRAMS that hold such people in Bondage have nothing whatsoever to do with the Religion per se.

If a child were forced into a Religion, by being forced to endure their Rituals, when they wanted to be elsewhere, doing other stuff, they should FORGET the MOMENT when they were BROKEN, and MADE to AGREE with the Religion. THAT is an ENGRAM.

Only if the victims in question are in the one of FOUR possible Categories of people, such as are SUSCEPTIBLE TO FEAR, do such Engrams work.

FEAR is a BAD Control Tool, because COWARDICE is STIGMATIZED.

When people realize that FEAR is holding them back, they may summon the COURAGE to OVERCOME it.

The Tyrant wise enough to understand the limitations of FEAR as a Control Tool has another- not as easy to use, but quite servicable.

This is called "CLARITY."

FEAR prevents one from using one's PERCEPTIONS intelligently.

CLARITY supersedes that limitation, therefore, the Evil Master must find ways to use that against their Slaves.

The vice of CLARITY is HOSTILITY.

The Tyrannical Master who has Fearless Slaves can use Hostility to control them- point them at someone to be hostile against.

The iconic examples of this are ADOLF HITLER (1889-1945), and BENITO MUSSOLINI (1883-1945), the Nazi Dictator of Germany, and the Fascist Dictator of Italy, respectively. They incited Anger and Hatred against Protestant Christians and Jews to the extent that very many of their citizens were prepared to literally get themselves killed, on foreign soil, in order to try to kill them.

That does not make rational sense.

That is because it is THE REACTIVE MIND that handles such decisions, based upon ENGRAMS.

The further downscale one goes, the more one is influenced by THE REACTIVE MIND, and thinking in ENGRAMS.

If one OVERCOMES HOSTILITY, Engrams cease to CONTROL one- one is not FREE of one's Engrams above the HOSTILITY Level- one can, at this point, VOLUNTARILY CHOOSE how far one is influenced by one's Engrams.

At the level of ENTHUSIASM one is considered to be FREE of Engramic Influence, and making one's decisions based on Analytical Computations.

ENTHUSIASM and JOY should not be confused with GLEE- in which one is basically VERY HAPPY that one's ENGRAMS are now driving- right up to the minute of the HEAD-ON-COLLISION!
