After keeping the world waiting for hours, Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has declared incumbent president, Uhuru Kenyatta, winner of the country’s disputed election.

IEBC disclosed that Kenyatta scored 8.2 million votes compared to 6.8 million votes for his closest rival and former prime minister, Raila Odinga.

According to final results declared by the electoral commission Chairman, Wafula Chebukati, on Friday, Kenyatta garnered 54.2 percent of votes cast during the poll.

Before Chebukati declared Kenyatta winner of the poll at about 10 pm (local time), representatives of the major opposition party led by Odinga, boycotted the exercise.

While announcing the result, Chebukati, the returning officer of the presidential election, disclosed that the incumbent president attained 25 percent of votes cast in 35 counties.
