When will you be free from ignorance?

What 'upgrade' is needed to handle a simple appendectomy that most Nigerian doctors can pull off with ease?

So did the doctor pull this one out with ease? Do you know how many cases like this that are not made public because the patients are not rich and popular? Please do not quote me if you won't use your head.

He knew surgery was inevitable yet delayed,
He had a phobia for Nigerian doctors, yet did not bother to jet out.

He simply played with his life. He must have thought life has a spare.

To worsen the matter, dem drive pass FMC owerri to a so called hospital managed by a family physician.

I tell folks often, if no b Teaching hospital or FMC just know say u dey play kalokalo with your life.
Although these facilities are not in the very best of standards but e better pass those semi-mortuaries called clinics.

The appendix must have been severly perforated or ruptured.

I'm sure the doctor did his best.

If patients no die for doctor's hand, how him go take improve on his skills?
Every death case makes him improve on the next.

He probably waited till the appendix burst and then expected the doctors to perform magic. I have had relations who have done the operation and not one of them had any complication. They recovered well, and the operations were all done in Nigeria.

i pity this guy, his wife and family, he is wasted for simple appendicitis that a herbal doctor from my place can conveniently remove within an 30minutes of oral administration of 1 teaspoonful of herbal mixture. this is done at the rate of #5000 only and leaving no wound to battle with and he will give you the appendicitis he remove from your body to show your people back at home. the man has done it for thousands of people, many per day and no issue reported. government hospital has attested to this. this operation has been done to my cousin brother's wife and i am a living witness of it. RIP bro!

When Ponzi Hater talks about the abysmal state of medical profession in Nigeria, some medical students come here to cry blood. Medicine in Nigeria is a shame and no kid should tell me otherwise. Take ur loved ones abroad if u have the resources, don't let any competent looking doctor sweet talk you.

For the loss, I pray God gives the family the strenght to bear the pain of loosing a loved one. No one wants to see a loved one, so young, so handsome and so vibrant die of a preventable cause. May he make that place where there'll be no more pain and no more sorrow.

It's well!

Ponzi Hater

It's a sad moment for family and friends of Mr. Nnamdi Obasi, the second son of Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, Prof Adaobi Obasi who died early on Sunday (yesterday) of complications arising from a recent surgery conducted by a hospital in Owerri, Imo state capital. The father of one who got married less than two years ago, was reportedly seen full of life during the inauguration / lunching of Elfreeda Foundation recently in Imo State.

His friends have taken to their Facebook walls to mourn the deceased. May his soul rest in peace.

Doctors are like aeroplanes, thousands of successful flights,no mention. But one crash, its viral news.
Thousands of surgeries are carried out daily in Nigeria sometimes under d worst possible conditions like using a phone torchlight to aid vision in a govt teaching hospital but d doctors hardly get a commendation.

Thank you sir. You said it all. Nigerians will nurture their own death by not coming to health professionals on time and later start blaming the wrong people. First, blame yourself, blame the government before blaming doctors.

I agree with you, especially over the highlighted.
A Teaching hospital is a place where many heads - nurses, midwives, resident doctors, interns, students, etc, - put heads together and carry out operations. Two heads are better than one.

But in Imo state, many people see University Teaching hospital as a General hospital where patients even with a slight headache must crowd 24/7 to rake in money for the state govt.

He was scared of doing the surgery in Nigeria,so the logical question is why didn't he travel abroad if it was the capacity of the Nigerian hospital he was so scared about,if his version of the story is to be believed.
He simply didn't want to be put under the knife anywhere and left it too late, likely ruptured appendix which carries a high mortality rate even in the best of hands.
Or else this was a manufactured tale of events by those who not in position to find out the truth have simply regaled the public with the narrative that would deflect blame from the family to the standard Nigerian fallback guy,the Nigerian dr and hospital.

You are the son of your father.....

From the look of things...its a ruptured appendix cos the guy refused to get the surgery done in time

What he feared the most came upon him!... Most likely he could have been taken some analgesic or pain reliever which could have concealed the overt symptoms of acute appendicitis. Leading to rupture and septic shock with high mortality rate even in the most eqquiped facilities.

I remember criticizing some of these quack doctors we have in that country and some people here was attacking me, the truth is bitter, honestly once you are sick in Nigeria just ask God that the doctor will know what he/she is doing because most of the good doctors are travelling away from Nigeria for greener pastures and nobody can blame them
