The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday has upheld the election of the Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Magnus Ngei Abe. This is in line with an earlier judgment given by the Election Petition Tribunal.
Dissatisfied with the decision of the lower court, the candidate of the Peoples' Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Olaka Nwogu had filed the appeal.
Dismissing the appeal of the PDP Candidate, the court said the defendant failed to show through credible evidence that the election of December 10th, 2016 in Rivers South-East was not conducted in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act.
Similarly, the Court of Appeal few hours ago had also upheld the election of Andrew Uchendu (APC), dismissing the appeal of Sen.George Sekibo (PDP)
By these decisions, the APC in Rivers State now has two Senators while the PDP has just one.
