Restructuring Of The MIND Or STRUCTURE? My Take On The Debate by Raziii(m): 4:49pm On Aug 25, 2017
In Nigeria today, the hottest political debate is on restructuring. Alot of people have different ideas as to what it means to restructure Nigeria.

But does Nigeria need restructuring? What kind of restructuring does Nigeria need. Some have argued that we need restructuring of the 'mind' while other think we need to restructure the entity called Nigeria.

First, what does it mean to restructure? It means to reorganize something with a view to achieving greater efficiency. To simply put restructuring is to organize differently.

Now the first question to ask is, is Nigeria working? Everybody believe it isn't! That's a fact. The argument most time is who is to blame.

So if we all agree Nigeria isn't working the way it should, there must be something wrong right? We all believe so. The question is, what is wrong? Some believe it is the structure while others believe it is the people in the structure.

RESTRUCTURING OF THE MIND

What will happen if we restructure our mind the right way? Lets paint a picture. Corruption, arm robbery etc. will reduce, because people will be okay with the little they have. Nepotism will be a thing of the past because people will only go for the best. Govt spending will reduce because people will begin to act with integrity. Hatred for one another will be a thing of the past because people will decide to love. I can go on and on.

The scenario I just painted has a central theme, 'People deciding to do what's right'. But here is the truth, humans don't just decide to act. Humans are controlled by their feelings and that feeling is fueled by the things they see, hear and touch. So is it possible to get over 50% of 170million people to begin to act right( lets say we've been acting wrong all along) because the most untrustworthy people ( the politicians) ask us to? The probability of that happening is zero!

If restructuring of the mind is what we need to archive greater things in Nigeria, why hasn't it happen. What's holding us from doing it? We have so many churches and mosques that preach the right things to us almost on a daily basis. How do we measure it's success? How do we know when people start changing their attitude? Its simply not foreseeable. No country has ever developed like that.

Now lets look at restructuring the present structure. When we restructure the police and judiciary to deliver prompt services, crime rate will reduce. When we restructure the power sector so that every state generates and distribute it's own power, power supply will improve. When will allow states control its own resources, attention will shift away from the centre, governors will quit being lazy, citizens will begin holding their governors accountable, because there will be no blaming the federal govt for everything. And beside People restructure things for better performance. So when we are restructuring, we will definitely look for the best ways to make things work.

If we focus on the structures, it will also lead to restructuring of the mind. Take the USA for example, people think twice before committing a crime because they know the chances of getting caught is very high.

A senator isn't stealing from the treasury of the country because he/she knows that's almost suicidal. You won't only be caught but also put behind bars

Trump is having problem because his agenda is somehow in breach of the existing structures. Somehow people are forced to act right in the USA by the structures and not because they are saints.

When we restructure to show equity and justice, the hate speeches and clamour for the disintegration of the country will reduce drastically.

Saints don't build a country, a working structure with competent hands do!
