AUTHENTIC: Names And Titles Of The 32 New Ibadan Obas (SEE LIST) by Oluwaseyi1234: 4:28am On Aug 26, 2017
The Oyo State Government had on Friday, August 25th, 2017, issued letters of conferment of Obaship on 21 chiefs in Ibadan.

The government explained that its decision was in line with the provisions of the recently amended 1959 Declaration of Olubadan and other related chieftaincies in Ibadanland as well as the government White Paper as conveyed in Government Gazette No 14, Notice 27 Vol. 42 of 23rd August 2017 and Gazette No. 15 Notice 28 Vol. 42 of August 24, 2017 respectively.

The government stated that the governor of the State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, exercised his powers as conferred on him by section 28(i) Cap. Vol 1 of the Chiefs Law of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000 and the amended 1959 declaration.

The presented the letters at the House of Chiefs.

According to the SSG, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji remains the Imperial Majesty with no disruption or amendment to the traditional Olubadan Chieftaincy ascendancy system or structure.

The High Chiefs who are otherwise known as Olubadan-in-council, are eleven in number, including Iyalode who is in charge of women affairs. Each of them is in control of the 11 local government areas, LGA, of Ibadan. And as such, they will preside as Obas over the LGA‎ they head.

7) High Chief Abiodun Kola-Daisi: Ekerin Olubadan of Ibadanland

cool High Chief S. Amidu Ajibade: Ekarun Olubadan of Ibadanland

Only High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, who has taken the government to court, was not in attendance. Chief Femi Olaifa, who was supposed to be one of the new Obas died last night.

Insideoyo.com also gathered that thirteen Baales were elevated to “His Royal Highness”, while the 9 vacant Baale stools were not conferred but their positions are now recognized as Obas.

3) Chief Moses Olasunkanmi: Onikereku of Ikereku

4) Chief Mudasiru Omodele Adebayo: Baale Olodo

5) Chief Victor Sunday Okunola: Elegbeda of Egbeda

Speaking on behalf of the new Obas, His Royal Majesty, Oba Lekan Balogun, tked the Oyo State Government and the governor of the State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi for answering the call of the people to review the Olubadan chieftaincy declaration of 1959, stressing that the new development is God ordained.

Ajimobi is a big joke.
Re: AUTHENTIC: Names And Titles Of The 32 New Ibadan Obas (SEE LIST) by Seguntimmy(m): 4:38am On Aug 26, 2017
I wonder why Ajimobi is doing these, it's not that I have anything for or against these, but he suppose to put himself in the Olubadan's shoes, being a Governor, how does it sound to have 32 Governor's in the same state with him?
.
.
But I know he is playing his last card sha, especially after banning churches and mosques from using speakers under the disguise to reduce noise in the state.
.
.
Nigerians are complaining about the APC government at the Federal level, now the State level headed by the same party is also adding insult to injury.
.
.
But 2019 will decide sha.

The governor is trying too hard to reform a system that is not broken.

If one shows understanding for the baales elevated to Obas, what is the rationale for elevating the High Chiefs to Oba status?

Ajimobi goofed on this one
Re: AUTHENTIC: Names And Titles Of The 32 New Ibadan Obas (SEE LIST) by WisdomFlakes: 2:38pm On Aug 26, 2017
The fact of the matter is that this is long over-due, and only a second-term governor can muster the political will to effect this change in the traditional system of the city. The decision is a unanimous one that enjoys the support of all relevant stakeholders.

Ex-governor Bola Ige intended to implement this reform but he postponed it till a second-term tenure that never came to pass, ditto Ladoja and Akala.

There are some important and far-reaching decisions that some governors have to wait till their second term to implement (because by then they will have nothing to lose since they won't be standing for re-election again, so it is only natural that Ajimobi is the one finally taking this step since he's the first 2-term governor in the history of the state). The Olubadan should deal with the reality of the times.

Ibadan is too big to have one oba.The well educated formal oba Oba samuel odugade supported it before he died because he saw it has precursor to ibadan state. But he couldn't carry out the reform because he has no power to do so.only a governor has the power.Ask hypocritical ladoja himsel, did he not conceptualize it during his tenure?....That is why HRM,Oba lekan Balogun was of the opinion that he is just not happy that the reform didnt happen while he was the governor!

The olubadan will now be addressed as Imperial majesty .....while the smaller obas under him will be addressed as his royal majesty while the formal baales will be addressed as his royal highness.

The system is not strange. The same thing is obtainable in ile-ife where the formal baales now answered Obas!

why is it a joke?....do you even understand the concept?
Dont just take the fact that the present oba dislike it as reasons or LAUTECH issue.

The former olubadan support it totally while the coming Olubadan lekan balogun also support it totally and other chieves, except ladoja(A known enemy of Ajimobi). We are talking of institution here not men!

Ehn ehn, what does that mean.Olubadan people could have decided not to become Oba in the first place, because tradition of ibadan is to have "Baale olubadan" untill 1959 when awolowo crowned the then baale olubadan to become Oba!

I dont think you are ok,the current system was designed in 1959 and its subjected to amendment only by the state government.Read your history wella.

The 30 Obas are under olubadan and he will be address as his imperial majesty just like an emperor,a title which in yoruba language is known as "Oba nla ti n fi oba je"...in english,it means "A great oba that crowns another oba"!,non of the smaller obas will be crown in future without Olubadan approval.Just like oba of obalufon and Abeere is to ooni and some other obas is to soun of ogbomoso.

Try and read about the amendment, dont just rush to crucify ajimobi due to your hatred for him on a concept that was actually bought up by the former oba to measure up with ooni, soun, alaafin and co with smaller Obas under them

keep making a fool of yourself. Ibadan that has 13 local governments or so will suddenly have 32 kings. You sound more ignorant with each contribution

you should be the one to go to school
32kings = increased government spending on salaries and allowances, official cars, palace buildings, etc.

Why not tell us the economic benefit of creating more mushroom kingdoms when kings are just ceremonial traditional figures? How will the 32kings contribute to the development f Ibadan? How will they attract investors and make up for the extra cost in a state that is struggling to pay salaries?

I bet your alma mater is poly Ibadan with this kind of backward reasoning.

The chiefs are only supporting the move cos of their own pockets
