Its not news again joooor Yoruba is one of the most spoken language in Africa after Swahili and Hausa But outside Africa, Yoruba Language is the most spoken Africa language. I remember even in 2012, Brazil universities are looking for those with Bsc or Msc in Yoruba language from Nigeria to work as a lecturers in Brazil and Cuba. To join British police now, Yoruba lang is one of the most required Languages. Some schools in US also. 16 Likes 2 Shares |

Always known since primary school that Swahili is the most spoken native African language. It would have been Arabic, but it's not a native African language despite its spread. It's certainly not Yoruba, though it should count among the most spoken. I'm not even sure it's more spoken than Hausa. 1 Like 1 Share |

Danielmoore: Are they homogenous in language.... I dont think so, there are different berber languages... Is just like saying europe is one tribe and speak same language.... Besides the focus of these discuss is most spoken language, not tribe... Most northern africans speak arabic n some berber languages are in serious risk of extinction... 1 Like |

SonofDevil: Petty nairaland tribal bickering aside, it's Arabic (then either Hausa or Swahili) that's the most spoken on the continent. Wikipedia isn't 'research'. Its a collab/free encyclopedia. That's why profs warn against taking info from there verbatim on term papers. If u check 'languages of Africa' on the same wiki u would see the numbers. And Arabic in its variable unintelligible forms is the most used at 150 m. Whilst Hausa is the biggest standalone language at 34m( Yoruba at 28) Another pitfall of using wiki. One has to be contextual and thorough. Can't just quote a sentence from one page without checking the references in the bibliography. Because another article would most likely contradict that piece of unverifiable info. https://googleweblight.com/i?u=https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_Africa&grqid=YQhJFFQh&hl=en-NG 3 Likes 1 Share |

SonofDevil: Yes they aren't. However when speaking of indigenous, the buck stops with Hausa and Swahili. Hausa more so because of its use over a large swathe of the Western Sudan. |

Igbos would never agree with anything that elevates or edifices the Yoruba people but they don't have the guts to launch a full scale attack on the Yoruba. What do you call that? Let's just stay on our lanes and continue our respective march to greatness. It is such a pity that hate has separated these two tribes. It would be best for us to be separated than for the igbo to continue this unjustifiable hate. 10 Likes |
