JAMB NEW CUTOFF MARKS: AREWA YOUTH CALLS FOR PROFESSOR OYOLEDE’S INVESTIGATION.
The federal government has been urged to set up a panel to investigate the activities of the registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Prof. Ishaq Oloyode, over his glaring incompetence and counter-productive policies capable of undermining the developmental strides of the president Muhammadu Buhari led government in the educational sector.
The president of the Arewa Youth Council, Comrade Dogo Shagari made this call during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday. Comrade Shagari noted that the JAMB chief executive has so far performed below par in his assignment in JAMB, stressing that the 2017 UTME conducted by JAMB, the first under Prof. Oloyode’s watch, was the worst in the history of the board. He blamed the poor outing on Prof. Oloyode’s lack of planning and organizational skills, adding that his actions led to a great deal of suffering for candidates.
On the new cutoff marks of 120 set by JAMB for admission into Nigerian universities, Comrade Shagari noted that the policy is a total disaster to the educational system. According to the youth leader, a country like Nigeria whose educational system is in a moribund state should only set standards that are higher than previous ones. He described the new cutoff mark policy as a sign that JAMB is towing the path of taking Nigeria’s education standard backwards, urging President Muhammadu Buhari not to ignore this sign. “how can a responsible institution like JAMB tell the whole world that prospective Nigerian students no longer have the intellectual capacity to score higher marks in UTME ?” he queried. The president further stressed that 120 is just a mere 30% of the total marks obtainable in UTME, a score very far below the minimum pass mark of 40% in our elementary schools. Comrade Shagari added that the JAMB boss is projecting Nigeria in a light described by famous American professor of history, Eric Foner, as “a country whose actual practices all too frequently contradicts its professed ideals”.
Comrade Shagari described Nigerian students as very brilliant and hardworking, wondering why Prof. Oloyode led JAMB thinks otherwise.

These Arewa people are merely dancing to the gallery, the jamb mishap was ostensibly set to favour them. Which part of the country is the most coerced to enrol their children into school? Arewa Federation!
