When list of political appointments is announced, we are quick to check the religion, tribe or region of the appointees, giving no or little attention to their past track records and what they can offer.

But when squad for super eagles is announced, we don't care about what their religion, tribe or region is, we are more concerned with how many goals he scored for his club side if he is a striker .How well can he defend, how many clearance or interception has he made if he is a defender. How many clear cut chances did he created, how many assists does he have to his name if he is a midfielder.

And when goal is scored, we all stand up to celebrate not minding his religion or tribe. And when one falters, we don't blame his religion or region but his lack of individual quality.

If only we react to political appointments with same resentments we react to super eagle squad list, Nigeria would've been the most developed country in the world.

Good observation @ OP. I blame the satanic umbrella party for dividing Nigerians along tribe and religion lines. They started it during the last general election with " Muslim Muslim " ticket which made the APC source for the current VP.
Till date, they still wail and cry over it. PDP is worst more than HIV and CANCER combination.

@op you are simply being clever by half with your patronising analysis....You flood Government establishments with hausas, muslims and a handful of 'other Southerners' in that order leaving out SE..

.Since the twisted structure this country operates on ensures Government is the largest spender and employer, this means indigenes of the afore-mentioned gets more money through contracts, employement and infrastructure while SE is left high and dry and her citizens left to toil twice as hard as those mentioned above to make ends meet and develop their region..

All this with no consideration as to who and who can do what because the pathetic situation of this country is a pointer to the fact that everyone who has ruled this country from Independence till date have all failed..so clearly ability to deliver has never been a cinsideration in this country when looking for who to take positions and lead.

Now you compare Football which is actually entertainment and ego-tripping by Nigerians when we lose or win?..sorry but that wont work.

the satan in government and his demons should realise that the super eagles list is drawn on merit where as his cabinet ministers list and the list of other appointees falls short of merit and is a picture of nepotism at its peak.

Arguably, the selection for sports is made on merit as performance of athletes can be easily verified.

Can it be said that the procedures for appointments, education, budgetary allocations and infrastructural appropriations are based on merit devoid of tribe and region?

Can it be said that there is no unofficial state policy that promotes bigotry, enforces nepotism and rewards ethnicism?

Can it be said that the history of Nigeria does not provide historical credence to the fact that there is an inherent primordial belief that a certain region pathetically believes that they own Nigeria and have attempted to demonstrate such?

Do you have any inkling of the institutionalised nepotism in federal establishments?

It is wilfull naivety to attempt to relegate the political aspirations of a certain group to sporting triumph. The Catalan region will celebrate a goal scored by Pique in the Spanish colours, but that should cast no doubt on their political beliefs.

It is immutable that before there can be meaningful peace, justice must be served.

Well, the difference is, a majorly southern team beat Cameroon 4-0, a most northern government has been wallowing in incompetence and being beaten by inflation 18-0. grin

Those that gave me 5% should not expect the same treatment as those region that gave me 97%... This came from a supposed president of a country...
It's no gaffe.. We have seen the preferential treatment of the Fulani herdsmen and arewa youths.. We have witnessed the lopsided appointments and executions of capital projects round the country..

Sai Baba can say that again and again until you people change your way. It is not a must you vote for him but learn to play politics with some sense of humor. You hate Sai Baba so much that you showed it to his eyes and when he won you submitted your request first. You want FCT minister, you want Finance minister, Petroleum minister to mention few and when the man tried to calm you down you started throwing jabbing and the man gave you an epic response.

Nigeria is a facade parading herself to be a nation.

To be patriotic and committed to Nigeria and her geographical borders is the height of self deceit.

Is it borders alone that make a nation?

Nigeria's unity is non negotiable but Buhari was busy championing Self Determination for the Palestinians and Western Sahara people.

Nigeria is a signatory to UN & AU charter on Self Determination.

Those laws supersede your constitution.

If you like, don't include Self Determination in your constitution

Buhari displays his bigotry here...

Gusau — As the year 2003 elections draw closer, former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) has called on Muslims across the country to vote only for the presidential candidate that would defend and uphold the tenets of Islam.

Buhari who made the call yesterday at the closing ceremony of the 16th National Qur'anic Recitation competition held in Gusau, Zamfara State told Muslims that they have every reason to thank Allah for restoring the Islamic Sharia under the present dispensation, which he said was destroyed by British colonialists during their crusade in 1903 against the Sokoto caliphate.

When one says "Nigeria's unity is non-negotiable" is usually sounds cool and patriotic until you pickup a dictionary and try to figure out the meaning of certain terms such as "Independence", "Equality", "Democracy", "Federalism", "Freedom", "Human Rights" etc

That statement simply defeats the objectives it tries to achieve. True Unity is indeed negotiable
