FG debunks Buhari’s plan U.S trip

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has urged Nigerians to disregard claims that President Muhammadu Buhari is travelling to United State (U.S), President, Donald Trump, over hurricane Harvey and other related issues.

Muhammed explained that the source quoted by the media organisation was a parody Twitter account and an old Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) news video.

The minister, in a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday, lamented that numerous parody Twitter accounts in his name were used to disseminate the fake news, claiming Buhari is due to leave Nigeria on Monday for U.S.

Also, he explained that an old NTA News video being circulated on the Social Media claims that the president has already left for United Nation (UN) General Assembly in New York.

”This is a 2015 NTA News video that was repackaged to look current, and to give the impression that the President left Daura, where he is celebrating Eid, directly for New York,” Mohammed said.

He stressed that Nigerians should disregard any news credited to any account in his name, either on Twitter or Facebook.

Muhammed added: ”Numerous parody accounts have been opened in my name on the two platforms, when indeed I have no Twitter or Facebook accounts.”
