paxonel:There something especially about coming together to pray and fellowship. It brings oneness, unity, that's why the scripture says in Psalm 133:1-3 "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! 2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; 3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore. |

asuustrike2009:That's true Gathering brings unity which may include financial help to the needy. But intellectual help? That one is zero o. They say it is better to teach people how to catch fish themselves than mere gathering them and sharing fishes to them. And you know, some of us have graduated from church going. We have acquired enough knowledge of the bible to function independently without religion 1 Like |

Like some rightly observed. It's not good to forsake the assembly of the believers. Going to church in its own is fruitless if one isn't living a life of holiness that's obtain when one surrenders his/her life to Christ. Come to think of it, if one after the other, everyone start to abstain from church, there won't be church anymore because we are the church not the building. That's why it's necessary to continue attending church no matter what. It's our coming together that forms the church. It doesn't matter the number of people as long you are more than one, gathering genuinely for Jesus, a church is established. |

Hmmm Well, I learnt a great deal about the church in Nigeria. This has made me conclude that going to church ALWAYS isn't in my best interest as a child of God. -the Nigeria church preaches what is generally acceptable but not necessarily the truth- first fruit, seed sowing, overcoming d enemy, grace... most are laced with falsehood n lies. -the theme of the Nigerian gospel is an offshoot of economic challenges. So that men see the Christ only in relation to getting something. Can our God achieve His goal thru you without necessarily meeting all your needs? -the Nigerian church gradually promotes the message of the new age movement. They promote 'a victim mentality' n also encourage individualism, relativism n self focus. -the nigeria gospel has fully embraced the American styled gospel-of wealth seeking, people exploiting gimmicks- over they European gospel which was first brought to them-obedience, sacrifice, blood n eternal reward. -the Nigerian gospel doesnt understand salt. We av bern thought to be'seperated' from normal life n people. We were told never to mingle cos we ll be cortupted. Thats a lie! Salt isnt ever seen apart in d soup, yet its effect can never be denied. -the Nigerian gospel seeks to run from problems by going to heaven. Instead of praying for peace n protection, when will we BE AGENTS IF PEACE N SECURITY? -The Nigerian church lacks community. Every man for himself. No sense of transforming community by grooming fine ideas n launching them. Only to put up conferences without communique! Me, I was once trapped in the religiosity of church going. All I got was it made me stressed, made me blacker in complexion n I lost many proper definitions to pastor's re-definitions. Never again. THE CHURCH IS CALLED TO BE WORLDLY. |

eyeon: What is a Church? “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them” (Matthew 18:20 ). If you and at least another believer gather in the name of Jesus the Christ (even if it is in a forest), there you have a Church. Also, Paul gave an insight into the fact that the Church is a body of believers in Christ. Check the verse below: "Greet also the church that meets at their house. Greet my dear friend Epenetus, who was the first convert to Christ in the province of Asia" (Romans 16:5) How should a Church look like and conduct itself? There is the Universal Church which all believers automatically belong to and there are local churches where believers in a particular area can meet anywhere in the name of Christ. (e. g., the Church in Corinth, the Church in Ephesus, etc). I) Now, the Church must have elders (overseers). You don't have to claim, like our so-called Men of God to be specially called of God, to be an overseer. Paul gave criteria for choosing elders or overseers for every local church. Check below: “This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you—if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination. For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.” (Titus 1:5–9) II) In the Church, no one is above rebuke, although the Bible asks us to rebuke a sinful brother with love. Everyone in the Church is accountable to everyone. Check a verse below: “If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.” (Matthew 18:17) III) In the Church, Christians use their gifts to bless one another. The Church was never described as a one-man company where someone or a group of people called pastors teach while the rest listen like zombies every Sunday. Here is how a Church should be: “What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up.” (1 Corinthians 14:26) And many more guidelines in the Bible. In summary, going to "Church" or not going does not really matter in this case where nearly all the Christians do not even know what a Church is or what is expected of them in the body of Christ. 1 Like |

it is true to say both that you don’t need to go to church to be a good Christian and that if you don’t go to church, you’re a bad Christian. Let me explain. If we were to narrow down what it means to be a Christian, the best place to look is at one of the people who Jesus said was a Christian. If you remember the thief on the cross next to Jesus (Luke 23:39-43 ), Jesus promises this man that he will be with him in paradise. This man never got to go to church, and yet he is a Christian because he trusts in Jesus. So in that sense it is true to say that you don’t have to be a church goer to be a good Christian. However the Christian life was never meant to be lived solo, God has gifted each member of his church to serve one another, you can’t do that solo. It is near impossible to live a Christian life alone, it runs counter to everything God has done for us. The early Christians can’t help but live alone, the modern church is against their beliefs. Churches nowadays as we have noticed seemed to ask for money frequently. Church are now an event center: The Church was never supposed to be an event. Church was designed by God to be a group of people who not only meet together one day a week, but also are a rock to turn to for encouragement through the thick and thin of life. “Going” to Modern church is a strange concept for the early Christians because church was never a place you “go” it was a constant communion and fellowship between believers as they lived their daily lives. 2 Likes |

God is a spirit and whosoever shall serve Him must do so in spirit.. dunno the chapter & verse but I know it's there in the Bible. You might be a Church freak and still be far from God, while that person you look down on as bad christian without church might be closer to God. Only God knows those who serve Him.. So you reading this, don't let anyone talk down on you concerning God's matter. We are all equal in His sight with equal privileges. Stay blessed. 1 Like |
