The reference to Dr Goodluck Jonathan as Vice President by returnee President Umaru Yar’Adua has aroused anger in senators.
Their anger was heightened by the refusal of the President to officially write the National Assembly on his return from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia two days after his arrival.
For this reason, the Senate also did not discuss the return of the president during its sitting yesterday

Members of the Upper Chamber who were taken aback by the sudden arrival of the ailing President were said to have been miffed by the reference to Jonathan as Vice President in a statement the president’s spokesman, Olusegun Adeniyi issued on Wednesday.

Part of the statement read thus: ‘President Yar’Adua is grateful to the Vice President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for completely overseeing the affairs of the state in his absence….However while the President completes his recuperation Vice President Jonathan will continue to oversee the affairs of the state.”
Daily Sun gathered that the Senators saw the reference to Dr. Jonathan as the Vice-President as undermining the authority of the state, which pronounced him the Acting President some weeks ago due to the prolonged absence of the President.

“What the President did was to ignore the Senate and disregard its resolution empowering the Vice President as the Acting President with the constant reference to the Acting President as the Vice President,” one of the Senators had argued.
Many of the Senators reportedly protested to the Senate President shortly before the plenary session commenced yesterday and wanted the matter discussed during plenary.

However, it was gathered that the Senate President, David Mark had a hectic time prevailing on the Senators not to raise the issues, but wait and see the unfolding events. “That is the reason it was not raised as a point of order yesterday,” another Senator told Daily Sun.
Meanwhile, President Yar’Adua again shunned the Senate for the second day with his refusal to send a letter to the National Assembly officially informing the legislature of his return.

The Senators, sources revealed, had thought the President would by yesterday send a communication to the National Assembly but were shocked to find that nothing was sent.
“It was at this point that we now know that his position was deliberate and not an oversight. It means President Yar’Adua did not recognize that resolution. But there is no cause for alarm. We are waiting. This unfolding drama will certainly end at a scene.

All I know is that our resolution subsists until otherwise changed by the Senate.
“We have done our own bit and if that is the way the executive wants to go about it, it’s okay,” a Senator maintained.
Interestingly, while the drama at home continues to unfold, the Senators were busy debating the coup de tat in Niger Republic and the need for Nigeria to take a step to help the country return to democracy.

Former president Yar Adua has to take the blame for everything his aides do or say in this matter,I know he did not directly say that, but a certain idiiot named Olusegun Adeniyi read one silly crap in which he referred to the acting president as Vice president and the former president as president

Why not as far as nigerian constitution is concern there is noting like acting president. YAR'ADUA is still the commander in chief of the arm forces federal republic of nigeria by viture of oath while goodluck is the acting president by the grace of the senate. Moreover goodluck has proven him self to be a regional president not the president of the federal republic of nigeria. Why is goodluck worry over the running of the afair of the nation if not he has a hidden agenda.

He has no agenda, he is just a man without a political base.
That could be a plus or a minus, depending on what outcomes we want for Nigeria, he must choose the right people and form the right political base to move Nigeria out of mediocrity once and for all. We must cajole him and he must take the batton now and run with it. HE MUST PERFORM.

@POST

This article, if true, confirms that Nigerian Senate is a congregation of selected idiots. The senate passed a resolution that elevated Vice President to Acting President based on the interview broadcasted by BBC. It is a brazen display of idiocy and reckless act of parliamentary procedure for the same Senate to require a written letter from the President who did not transmit similarly letter when he proceeded on vacation pertaining to health reason.

I urge the goons in the Senate to wait for a similar interview broadcasted by BBC to stand down the resolution that elevated VP to AP. Mr. President has no hand in the Senate’s political folly while he was away in Saudi Arabia and there is no code legally compelling him to do so or refer to VP as AP.

Yar'adua is still the president and Goodluck the vice-president. Acting president is a responsibilty, not  an office.
