Although colonialist bequeathed Nigeria parliamentary system of government, Nigeria later changed to presidential system of government, but , ndigbo could not abandon there much cherished old long established republicanism because they are at home with it. In Igbo system of government, theigwe , obi eze is elected by the council of elders and age grade as the traditional head and the custodian of culture and morality. There are town union which takes care of the development projects in the town and women association which are involved in the development of Igbo society. In other words, the leadership in Igbo society is in the hands of elected igwe and town union. IGWE as the traditional head maintains peace and order in his domain upholds and protects the traditions, culture and customs of the land and is the grand patron of the town union.
