Olubadan Sues Governor Ajimobi And 23 Others by ishowdotgmail(m): 10:32pm On Sep 20, 2017
The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, has sued the Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi and 23 others, over their involvements in the crowning of 21 kings in Ibadan on August 27, 2017.

Joined in the suit are the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters in the state, the eight high chiefs that were elevated to kings, as well as the Baales that were conferred with kingship status.

Apart from the suit filed by Olubadan, there are others variously filed by Rashidi Ladoja, Abdul Jelil Karimu and others.

In the suit with file number I/1077/2017, which was filed at High Court of Justice, Oyo State on September 19, 2017, the Olubadan is claiming that the governor violated the Chiefs Laws CAP 28 of the state, saying that Ajimobi does not possess the power and authority to confer anybody the right to wear a beaded crown and coronet.

The Olubadan is also claiming that the crowing of the kings is illegal and void since the governor did not consult with the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.

The Olubadan is seeking an order setting aside the Gazette Numbers 14 and 15 of Volume 42 of August 23 and 24, 2017 made by the governor and which conferred the right to wear crown and coronet on the elevated high chiefs and Baales.

He said the governor’s action violated provisions of the CAP 28 of the Chiefs Laws of the state.

The monarch therefore prays the court to set aside the installation of the new kings.

Wasting of time. How and when did he get his own crown? Didn't he too only start wearing a crown only some few decades ago?

Olubadan wants to disgrace himself,

Ibadan is just too big for one person to rule,

Even the small Abeokuta (compared to IB) has around 4 Kings or so,

He should just respect himself.

Olubadan would win, and Onibadan would refuse to change his decisions.

Dont mind him. It was military administration that approved olubadan to start to be wearing crown in 1976.

Every town has its own perculiarity and history. Comparison of Abeokuta with Ibadan in terms of number of kings does not hold water. Abeokuta is a commonwealth of Egba, Owu, Yewa, Ijaiye and other people. Ake, Owu, Ibara and Ijaiye were towns on their own likewise Oke - Ona and Gbagura also had many towns and villages back then
These people took refuge from war at different time in history in Abeokuta. Abeokuta kings were beaded kings for many generations before migrating to the current site now called Abeokuta today.
Ibadan was part of Egba old location before they were pushed to Abeokuta. Ibadan was a war camp and was ruled in succession by the war lords who were Magajis of their family. This history of having various strong warlords made Ibadan to refuse monarch system .Baale of Ibadan was a subject of Alaafin as at then. Olubadan was given beaded crown around 1940's in order to be in tune with reality of time. Olubadan cannot be a Baale when Ibadan was the biggest city in Africa then.
The high chiefs have been classified as 2nd class rulers for a long time but now conferred with crowns but now as 2nd class kings.
Every king has his own domain but this newly elevated kings will be ruling over their family except the Baales who were in charge of various villages.
There is a need for Ibadan kingship to be decentralised but this recent development seems to be full of errors.
The Nigerian kings in general are more or less a conduit for unnecessary expenditures. What is their function in a democratic setting? Every king should take of himself not constituting unnecessary burden to the people.

Check your history well. It is even available on the internet. Olubadan used to be a baale. He did not start wearing a beaded crown until December 1976, under a military administration. The first olubadan to wear a crown was Oba Gbadamosi Akanbi Adebimpe 1976-1977. It is on the internet. It was even the Alaafin and oonirisa that advocated on his behalf that he deserves a beaded crown. It is on the internet. He is just being a hypocrite.

You seems to have someone who is a beneficiary of this new order or you are aspiring to become the new OniBodija of Bodija Kingdom...Lol.

As much as I know the governor has the right to what he did, I still believe crowning 21Kings in one fell swoop is way too much. It waters down the title. Most people can't even remember the names of those kings, even people living within their domain. A King without territory. Shey that one na king?
