BEWARE! FEMALE RESIDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE THEIR HOMES IN IKORODU ON TUESDAY; SEE WHY HERE

source: http://www.eyesoflagos.com/2018/05/beware-female-residents-are-not-allowed.html

The female residents in Ikorodu community, Lagos Mainland, has been asked to stay indoors on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, by the traditional leaders in the community due to the annual Oro festival scheduled to hold same day.
Eyes Of Lagos gathered that, In a letter signed by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Shotobi, and addressed to the chairman of the management boards of the Ikorodu town hall the monarch said female residents should stay indoors and avoid moving around the community to ensure the peaceful celebration of the annual festival.
“This is to notify you of the above-mentioned festival which is slated for Tuesday, 8 May 2018, according to tradition all females are forbidden to be seen outside their homes or move around the town on this date which is Oro Day,” the letter read.
The monarch added that: “Your cooperation towards the success of the festival will be appreciated. Thank you in anticipation and God bless.”
Over the years, the traditional festival has been celebrated twice every year with only the male residents allowed to move freely across different parts of the community.
During the festival, females stay indoors as oral history has it that Oro must not be seen by women and non-participating people

From China to Japan to India, they have cultures and festivals that are cultural and you have to obey. Saying "these things are of the past" is the best way to lose your culture, tradition and identity as humans

Lagos is a city of multiple ethnicity. No group can impose their barbaric culture on it entire populace.

Nobody pay my bills, why obey such monopolistic rule?!

How many times has the Igbo, Ijaw or Hausa shutdown Lagos for there individual festival?!

Take them to court for what? For saying they want to practice a festival that takes place every year?

That's like saying someone should sue the FG over Christmas

am not disiputing the fact that these ain't a culture that should be celebrated. My major concern is that why would women be restricted from coming out on a working day in an economic hub like Lagos?

Yeah, that argument. No one is forcing or imposing.

It is just an advice and them seeking your indulgence and understanding which you can turn down and be as stubborn as you want. grin

No matter how we love our culture and traditions so much we should also understand that things and times are changing and we as humans should follow suit. If we really want to follow our cultures very well then we should start walking naked or dressed in animal skins so we understand that we actually love our cultures and will want to follow them just as our for fathers did.

So Halloween isn't a new York or America festival, am an Igbo and I don't see anything wrong in it, every country has its own unique festival so stop comparing Nigeria with others and stop worshipping the whites.
I may nt even go out on dat day because am nt a member

Culture? Hmmm. Ikorodu is on top when it comes to people getting lost daily...courtesy of the culture of late nights rituals in the name of culture.

I thought all these fetish and traditions had gone into extinction but this is just a clear indication that civilization is yet to exterminate some of our barbaric cultures.

Over 90% of Americans are immigrants. Except you are a Native american, you arr an immigrant there so what is this about?

Should I care that they don't have traditions and cultures?

Why not look at Asian countries with strong ties to their cultures

Nothing good comes out of this stupid oro it's just dubious means of using human as sacrifice.

Last year when a new king was about to be crowned in my area they Said there will be oro and they said only ladies must not come out to see it, because the stupid man behind the oro is naked. But at midnight we could hear the cry of a man screaming pls have mercy.

If oro see person to challenge him with gun he go run.
